Getting my 800efi faster and taller
#1
Ive recently purchased a 2006 polaris sportsman 800 efi, i have been riding the bike hard and fast so far i have no complants. i was just wondering if anybody knows of some aftermarket parts to up grade my stock sportsman. im looking to lift it alittle(suspension and tires) and i was hoping to squeeze a couple more HP out of her.
any suggestions would be appreciated

do a search on lifts and you see all kinds. as far as aftermarket mods you can search as well but there isnt really alot out there for the 800 yet. differnt exhaust but alot of money for a couple of ponies.

try the FMFor Supertrapp exhaust, you will notice the difference. my dealer said not to install a chip in the 800's as it only messes with the fuel mapping and the 800's run rich enough. i have the supertrapp on mine and it will out run my buddies stock 800 by about 4 lengths after 200m.

Faster, I can not help! Taller, I can!
I had an 800 until yesterday, I had put Ranger springs on the rear and cranked the cams all the way up. I put the rear springs on the front. I had to flip them to fit over the strut. When you do this, the spring cap will not fit around the top of the spring, so I had to modifiy something to keep the spring centered on the strut. Without it, you get a springy sounding ride when going over bumps. The front struts would not fit all the way down, because the spring as much taller. So, I let the quad sit where it did and tightened the the strut clamp. The strut will sit about 1/2"-3/4" higher than bottoming out. This will put a little more axle angle than designed, but I've had no problems! This setup with 28" Mudzilla's I had 16" Ground Clearance front and rear! Let me know if you want more info!

alright thanks guys i will probably try that exhaust, i just ordered a XTP800 lift kit, its supposed to give an extra 2" of lift, but if that doesnt work ill give the spring swap thing a try.
more info on the lift would be appreciated.
i was also wondering which are better mud tires Mudzilla's or Gator's my friend has gators and they seem unstopable, i was thinking of going with 27 10x12 on front and 27 12x12s on back i can get them in a package at what looks like a good price, is the extra 1" mudzilla's give you worth it. any suggestions please

Mudzilla's are a better mudtire. I don't think the hard pack riding is too rough. Others would disagee. If I wanted a smooth ride, I'd leave it stock! But, I am always far from stock!

Good luck in getting yours faster and taller. I keep getting fatter and rounder. I'm not sure if there is a connection

Wileyco true dual exhaust , k&n filter and a Dobeck programmer. Any of these by them selves won"t make a difference, but add them all together and you will. Pm me if you need help finding were to get any of these add-ons.

Something that I just learned when moddin the MV, I usually remove the sway bar, but I didn't realize this gives about 1/2" more ground clearance. This only happens if you are maxed out, meaning you have already adjusted your shocks for no suspension sag! When you have the shock cams run up and the sway bar still on, the linkage actually holds the quad down some, putting undue stress on the sway bar linkages. No wonder I was tearring the crap out of those $6 grommets!
