How do you know if a spark generator coil is bad?
#1
I still have no fire from a 185S three wheeler..primary stator coil in it was bad, you could see a broken wire. Now how do I OHM out the "good used one" to see if it is good. I have put it in and still have no spark.. With the stator assembly removed and the meter set on X1X I get exactly 500 on the scale. This is reading from the single red wire to the base of the stator assembly.. Seems to me that it reads good. I tried another CDI box and spark plug coil and ignition pickup from a running bike and still no spark..Spark advance in the pulse generator assembly was gummed up and did not float freely. I cleaned all this up good and it now works free. Suggestions Please.

i can't seem to pull my generator off of the trike no matter how hard i try. I was wondering if i could use a battery w/ a dc/ac converter in place of the generator?- I need info!

Well no you can't use a battery in its place.
As far as I knew using the ohm meter was the only way to test the coil. I persume you checked all connections wires and visually inspected the coil itself? Are clean the contacts clean?
When you say you can't get the generator off, is it the flywheel or the coil. The flywheel requires a puller. You could try some penetrating fluid.
BTW I take it you did the ohm test while in the bike? Well the current would still flow as it could possibly pass through the cases of the engine. You need the coil disconnected and I always thought it was around 380 ohms, not sure tho.
