i rebuilt the carb on this because it was not running for crap (would not idle, start hard). it has spark but do not smell any fuel at all. it fires up with alittle bit of starter fluid but then dies right away. any one know why i am not getting any fuel? anyone have any suggestions? open the drain screw or take the bowl off. If there's gas, then obviously it's getting to the carb. That will narrow down the possibilities by half.

Rough idle and hard starting sounds like a too tight valve clearance issue. Try adjusting the valve lash.

 

did you try starting it with the throttle open, like around 1/4 or 1/2 throttle?

 

yea, nothing at all with the throttle open. it try's to start very little with the chock fully on. i took apart the carb today to make sure everything looked ok and was free, it was. still will only run for a few seconds after i spay a little starting fluid in the carb.

It's been a long time since I've adjusted the valves on a Moto-4. So I can't give you the exact procedure. I do remember it being pretty easy however. Any good shop manual will give you the procedure.
