02 Raptor running, but somethings wrong???
#1
So I brought the quad to the firehouse because there are some bike smart guys there that where going to help me replace my left front tie rod. I drove the quad into the bay at 7 am..the quad ran fine...We did the work, and when I had time I took it for a test drive and the quad idled fine. But when I gave it a little throttle it sounded like it was getting too much fuel. Like it was running rich. I could bareley get it moving, when I would give it throttle it would backfire and sound horrable. One guy actually told me he saw a blue flame come out of the exhaust.
When I bought the quad 13 days ago the dealer told me that they had to replace a flow valve. Do you think that this could be the problem now? Any help I would appreciate.. Thanks alot!

I'm not sure what the "dealer" is referring to as a flow valve. A bad, or sticking, exhaust or intake valve in the head could possibly lead to this. I would suggest taking it back to the dealer and having them check the valve clearances and the valve that was replaced. Considering that you only replaced a tie-rod and did not touch the engine, carbs or intake, I doubt anything you did is the problem. Unless you recently adjusted the carbs or changed to a new exhaust or air filter.

Thanks alot for your input pal. The float valve they replaced was a tiny piece in the carburator. Anyhow, i just made an appointment to have it worked on in the morning. Thanks again.

Ah, the "float valve" or float in the bottom bowl of the carb. So you've probably got a tiny spec of dirt or sand in their that's not letting the float plunger fully seat. I hope they don't rip you off too bad.

Yea I hope they dont rip me off either. Especially since I picked the quad up only 13 days ago. It did come with a 60 day warranty..and I actually paid for another warranty that will probably turn out to be useless..lol..I would think that they will just fix the float for free seing as though they " replaced" it when I bought it. Thanks again.. I'll be sure to post a message when I get it back.

the carbs on that bike have proven to be a real pain in the butt to almost every raptor owner
they can be a pain to dial in,,,and I would not pay for that tune if you just bought the bike
do a search on raptor carbs in the yamaha forum,,,,,lots of info
enjoy the raptor,,,,and be sure to respect it also,,,being new to the sport and all

wow..what switch for the parking brake...thats the only other thing that i touched that day. I was trying to figure out how the parking brake works, because it is tricky..Is there something that I may have touched near the parking brake that may effect the way the motor runs??
thanks alot everyone!

on the parking brake setup ,,,there are little black switches that plug into the backside of the lever
they restrict the engine when the parking brake is on
be sure the switches are working properly
