If you will, please tell me your technique that you use to get a good holeshot when racing your Raptor. Please be sure to include what type of terrain that you are racing on also.

The reason I ask is that I seem to be unable to really let it rip until second gear or else the front end won't stay down and I end up losing time. Everyone is talking about the Raptor getting the holeshot, but I can't figure out how to use all of its power at the start.

BASH,
I'VE RACED ON GRAVEL ROADS WITH STOCK TIRES, AND SAND HILLS WITH SKATE 2'S. I USE THE SAME TECHNEQUE THAT I USE WITH MY BANSHEE. I GET WAY OVER THE HANDLE BARS, PEG THE THROTLE, AND DUMP THE CLUTCH. DONT SIT ON THE SEAT UNTIL THE TIRES GET TRACTION. WITH THE RAPTOR ON GRAVEL, I STAY ON THE TANK THROUGH 3RD GEAR, THEN LOOK BACK TO SEE WHERE ALL OF THOSE 400EX RIDERS, GAVE UP!
RIDE IT LIKE A TWO STROKE AND IT WILL HIT LIKE A TWO STROKE.

Bash,
yesterday i was riding with about eight other freinds and a guy on a ds650 found us and said he had been looking for me. and he wanted to race. and i was like OK. but i was thinking to my self on the way to race this guy. how i was going to keep the front end down. anyway when we got to place where he wanted to race it was a redrock road. i just leaned over the handle bars with my stomach on the tank and threw the fuel to her. i had no problems with the front coming up! the razr tires i just put on hooked up great!

Ive never rode a Raptor but the best way to start out is to:
Lean very far over the front end, rev up pretty dang high, when you get the go, pop the clutch and hold on!

When I had my Blaster I would race friends on a staight in dirt. Since this was my first sports quad I really didnt know how to take off good. I would sit on the seat regular and the front end would raise up high. After a while I began sitting on the gas tank and leaning over the bars. Doing it that way I could get the holeshot on my friend with his kawa 125, but he would eventually catch up and beat me. With the Banshee I just lean over the bars and sit on gas tank.

Don't drop the clutch. Let it out with the throttle all but hammered and use the clutch to keep the front down. This keeps the revs up where the majority of the power is and still gives you the control over the front wheels. Lean as far forward as you can while still being able to properly use the controls.

Thanks Lovmaraptor for that explanation. I was begining to wonder about you quad guys. I should be getting my first quad tomorrow which is a raptor. Right now I have a Suzuki 1300 Hayabusa sportbike. I have drag raced bikes for years now and I am sure this technique will work on a quad also. Slip that clutch till the front starts to rise and control the front end with the clutch. You dont want your front end to get over 1 foot off the ground or it will become easier and easier for the bike to come on up the higher it gets causing you to have to back off the throttle. Your times are severly hindered when you spin or bog the engine also. Hey I wonder if you could strap the front suspension down like I do the bike??? Hehe.

Thanks to all for the tips and techniques.

Gravel and other loose surfaces were no problem. It was on a dirt track or pavement that the leaning over the front didn't do any good at keeping the front end down when just dropping the clutch. It looks like I'm going to have to do some more practice with my clutch work.

PS.... your quad is going to feel slow compared to the busa.
