Default 2006 Polaris Sportsman 50

I have a chance to buy 2 new 2006 Polaris Sportman 90 for $1550 a piece. These are the 2 stroke engines. Does anyone have any experience with them or could let me know if they are good for trial riding. I did see one complaint where a guy said that they were only good to ride in the grass at home. I have a hard time believing this is true, but would like feedback.

I am coming to the end of my journey looking for atv's for my two sons. I am thinking about this Polaris or the Kawasaki 90. I can get the Kawasaki 90 for $2000 a piece.

what do you think..

personally i wouldbuy the dc 90, how big are your kids? are they going to outgrow the 50 fast? even if the 90 is a little to big you can slowthem down alot, and they will not outgrow as fast. even if a 90 size wise is a little big and you slow them down i thnk they will be fine there on 4 wheels my 11 yearold a skinny little kid pounds a kazuma 250 around like nothing, its a dog though.

i think the dc and polaris is almost the same machine and might be cheaper?

Those are pretty good prices for a new Polaris 90, I would probably go that route between the 2 choices.

Sounds like a good deal on the Predators..Whoever said they were only good to drive on grass doesn't know what he's talking about.

I bought a Sportsman 90 for my son When he was 6. It was fine for cruising around the farm, but we have found it not to be too good for the trails because everytime he hits a water puddle the engine dies. Sometimes it will start right back up others we have to wait a while. The other problem I have with it is no sealed brakes, When they are wet they do not work worth a hoot. my son is now 8 1/2 and has had a couple crashes, due to brake failure, and is real timid riding the trails. I wish someone would build a good quality quad for kids with the following equipment

1.4 stroke
2.sealed drum or disk brakes
3.head lights (not for riding alone at night but for better visability in the woods and for coming in from the deer stand in the evening )
4.reverse
5.speed control
6.engine braking for the automatics

I would pay a fair price for a quad like this. I am looking at the Honda TRX90 in the near future it has most of these items he will just have to learn how to shift gears.

.

Polaris 90 and many other 2 strokes don't like water above their running boards. Polaris 2-strokes are much more sensitive to water exposure to other brands.

For a list of safety and "trail specific" upgrades I had to perform on our '03 Polaris 90, surf:

Might want to "clone" many of these improvements for your mini-ATV (regardless of its brand).

If water / crud riding conditions, stay away from the Polaris 90 and other 2 strokes. They really don't like water (even spashing water) above their running boards.

If you ride where there is an extreme amount of water you may have problems. You can ride through water up to the floorboards with no problems if you use common sense and take it slow through the water so you don't splash water up into the engine...A disc brake would be nice on the rear for mud running but it also limits your ground clearance a little....I think you could do much worse for the price.
