Honda to pay me back for repairs.
#1
Made repairs to my wifes recon back in 2003. angle sensor..
Got a letter from honda yesterday Nov14th 2006 saying I can get my repair money back..
So I Went to the old file cabinet, pulled out my receipt, and sent everything in with the fancy card HOnda provided.. They said 6 to 8 weeks.. Whats bad though Is the angle sensor they repaired it with in 2003 is not one of the new ones that need to be in it! Oh well I have until Aug of 2008 to bring it in for the new angle sensor for free.
SO if anyone was like me and payed for the repairs, Id be getting a hold of honda.. And you dont have to be the first owner!!! It says it right onthe card.

You know, for years I constantly pointed out that there was a veritable flood of posts about problems with the ES system (average was two per week!). And ES owners all replied about how "wonderful" and reliable their machines were! Now they are all tripping over eachother to get in line to be the next to have them replaced..............

Im not sure how im supposed to take your post???
We have had this recon for almost 5 years now and have only had one problem with the ES.
And have had ZERO problems with it since aug of 2003?
And as for the "TRIPPING OVER THEMSELVES" comment? I think I even state "oh well i have until 2008"
that does not sound like im running off to the dealer right away?
All I was saying is if you payed for the repairs, you may get your money back. EVEN IF YOU NO LONGER OWN THE QUAD...
The post has nothing to do with bashing the ES SYSTEM I hope you did not think that was what I was doing.
And to get an updated improved part for free is even better?
And for someone that is unable to use the standard clutch shifting,, The ES system was a great choice for the family being able to ride.

I sure wasn't trying to be personal, just refering to a phenomenon in general. I should have said that right up front.............
Early on, the magazines had a number of ES failures in quads they were testing, and even that wasn't enought to wake folks up! For a very long time, every time someone posted that they were thinking about a quad with ES, I would give them the "buyer beware" lecture, and point out all the posts on problems. Then, there would follow a flood of posts from ES owners who claimed it was the greatest thing since SEX. After a while, I just gave up and let nature take its course, which it has now obviously done.............

grumpy-You are exactly what I have been describing! Over the years there have constently been ES problem posts on the board, and lots of folks like yourself willing to ignore them! Now even Honda agrees that there is a major problem...............

You are right! I'm going to sell my Foreman 500 ES just because a $60 part may go bad. As I understand, Honda is replacing the Angle Sensors on some ES equipped ATVs because they may be defective, Not ALL of them. What is your point? What is with your campaign against ES machines? Some of us like them, and for those that doesn't, they can opt for a foot shift. You want a simple, light weight machine that you can control----get yourself a pedal car!

Recon ranger-- I do understand your point. My first few months of owning a honda (my rubicon) I got so sick of hearing "BULLET PROOF" that I almost got rid of the damn thing. There is nothing worse than being in a circle of HONDA riders at a atv run etc... and listening to how superior there machines are when they know darn good and well
that is not the case...
Dont get me wrong, our atv's are paid for, and we have had very little problems with them. So I aint gonna start bashing HONDA. but dangit if there is a problem , stand up and shout it loudly, that is how it gets fixed, just like a automotive recall... Its ok to admit that HONDAS are not the best... Heck Ill start right now
HI MY NAME IS JOHN AND I OWN A HONDA....
In case your wondering, I was just having a little fun with my last remark. So dont anyone get to uptight about all this.

Reconranger, you're a very smart and knowledgeable guy, that is quite obvious. But take it easy on the ES.
You make it seem like Honda is recalling these ES bikes because of a design flaw, or subpar engineering. That is simply not the case.
Honda installed a batch of angle sensors that were "made in Mexico". These proved to be very unreliable and problematic. The replacement sensors are "made in Japan" and have not given any trouble. The design of the ES system is exactly the same, the angle sensor is simply better quality. Quite simple really.
This isn't any different than when Honda had problems with shift plates on early Ranchers, both ES AND manual shift. Or when Honda had problems with weak shift drums on early Ranchers, both ES AND manual. Yes, even manual shifts are prone to problems. Once Honda replaced these early Rancher parts with better ones, the problem was solved.
