Any reason not to buy a Sportsman 600?
#1
I have the chance to purchase a 2002 Sportsman 600. I've owned 500's in the past and have had no complaints. I don't here alot about the 600's. Would there be any reason to stay away from it? Its virtually brand new. It has only 50 miles on it.

Well I can tell you by personal experience. The 600 has lots of power and is great in the mud and good on gas. The Polaris suspension is awsome. The bad is the frond diff sucks. I have 2300 miles on mine and I take really good care of it but on my 3rd diff. There is a plastic rollar cage in the front which is part of the locker adn under any stress they will crack and eventually implode inside. They used to maker them from aluminum but once tehy broke it would tear the whol diff up. The plastic ones will just get eaten up into small pieces. Once the diff starts to act up it is uncontrollable. You can be riding fine on a trail and then wham it will kick in and steer you in one direction or the other. Then alot of times it will not come unlocked. It is a poor design. If they fixed the front diff then I might buy another Polaris but until then I still have my 600 sitting in the garage while my Honda gets all the rideing time. If the 4wd works like it is supposed to then dont be afraid to buy it but if it acts up you will have to put out big money to fix it.

I haven't yet to get stranded anywere ,but I wish they would have put some other way to start it, if the battery is bad. Kick start would be nice. By not beable to pull start this thing. Other wise it is a very nice quad. Your message was 3 months ago, did you buy ? also is the motor a two or four stroke? Anyway good luck.

i thought the main reason thet stopped making it was because the 500 efi was pretty close to it in power, so they didnt need a 5,6 7,and a 800.
