04 warrior carb- bogs-HELP
#1
alot of you seem to know alot about the warrior so help!
i am new here and have just got a warrior and have been reading all the info about the carb and have done my best to fix it but its still giving me problems. it has the same symptoms as a few machines on here- idles fine, bogs when i hit the gas, bogs sometimes when i ride, sometimes it seems fine.
it has a white bros R4 exhaust and k&n filter.
i thought it could be the parking brake, i took it off and unplugged the switch that was attached to the clutch perch. still the same problem.
the spring is still in there(i even put in a click pen spring just for kicks)
when i took the carb apart i saw that the stock jets (42.5/138) are still in there. would a jet kit fix the problem?
all i want to do is ride but i am sick of almost getting stuck in the middle of a crossing! guys feel my pain and help!

Something's not right. The stock jet is bigger than a 138, a 145 to be exact. With a filter and exhaust you should be at least a 147.5. You're probably running way too lean, that would cause problems with throttle response. Did you ever do a plug chop?

the threads on the plug are black, there is alot of carbon build up, the tip of the plug isnt black though its more of a tannish color. i really think its the jets, 138 did seem small. hopefully the solution is simple and i can get this thing runnning correctly!

From what you told me about the spark plug, it sounds like you're running too rich. With a main jet smaller than stock, you should be running way lean. I think that what you have in there is a dynojet jet, which is on a different sizing scale than a stock jet. You need to go down to a leaner main jet. I'd go to a dealer and get a 147.5 mikuni jet, and see what that does for you. If it's running that rich that your plug is sooty and black, there is some power to be gained by getting this thing jetted correctly, on top of getting back your throttle response.

Does the main jet have a hex head or round head. Round ones are Dynojet, hex are mikuni (or could also be larger round head). To avoid the confusion. Does it say DJ138 or like a square then 138.

Stock mikuni jets for this carb are large round - about 8 mm in diameter, the dynojet would be a round jet about 3-4 mm in diameter.

the jet in there only says 138-nothing else. i compared it to a 150 mikuni out of another and the hole in the 138 is BIGGER than the 150! so i put the 138 back in, turned out the air screw changed the plug and it seems to be running better. i didnt get it warmed up and i did feel one or two bogs when i attemped a wheelie and stabbed the throttle. seems to run fine shifting through 3rd and running it out (that is all the room i have on my property) if i try to do a plug chop i will probably get the police called on me, so i will do it when i get out riding this weekend! this forum is great and you guys are a real help, any other ideas you want to shoot this way are greatly appreciated.

Your warrior carb really doesn't have an air screw, that's a 2 stroke thing. It has a fuel screw, and turning it out would make it even richer, but that only affects the idle mix. You need to start by getting a leaner main jet. If it's noticably bigger than a 150, then it's way too big. You should have a 152 mikuni at the most, more likely a 150 or 147.5. Start out with that, and then tweak the fuel screw after you get the rest right.
