4x4 not disingaging, and pulling realy hard to the left
#1
Allright guys so I got my scrammy back about a week ago from getting a new top end. Its been running excallent with about 2 full tanks of gas gone threw her, its also pushing 135 psi for compression after those 2 tanks so im pretty happy as far as thats concerned. BUT today out of no were the bike started pulling realy realy hard. Like I could be going stright and feel the handle bars pulling to the left without applying any gas. Like if I let go of the handlebars they will jerk all the way to the left and its extramly hard to turn them right. It goes back to normal when i reverse but i go a couple feet forward and boom it does it again. I had the left hub totaly apart and everything looks absolutly fine. I put brand new fluid in it to.. I noticed that after i reverse and its normal then i go stright I here a slight click noise and then boom it pulls to the left, as soon it does that the chain gets extremly tight but when its not pulling to the left the chain is no were as tight as when i here that click and it starts pulling. It just feels like somthing is out of alignment, i mean its pretty much impossible to ride in this condition it realy pulls so hard to the left it makes it nearly impossible to go right at all. I just dont no what to do. Im sure they beat you right in the head for a new hillard assembley for the left wheel, i think its the four wheel but then again if it was only the four wheel wouldn't it be pulling to the left when im on the gas, it does anywere anytime. I can push it in a stright line for like 10 feet then boom the handle bars rip to the left just like if i were riding it, push it back words and it goes back to normal. What the hell could be wrong guys????Any help or input is greatly appreciated, im totaly stuped by this situation.

it does sound like the one wheel kicking in for sure. any way of disaging the power to see if thats it. if theres no power to enguge it then it wouldnt work right. just a thought.

Ya but even if only wheel is kicking in wouldnt it only pull while giving it gas. If im off the gas it still pulls and is realy hard to go to the right. My next guess is my spring is bad not releasing the clutch in the hub?? What you think Stendori your always helpin me out Thank you much

pgt, try doing on a serch of this and i beleave theres alot of info concerning this same problem. i beleave even going slow it has a drastic effect on pulling to one side. its the only thing i could think of maybe someone(wouldnt take much lol.) with more knowledge of this would be a better help.

Mine does the same thing. Change your front hub fluid and change it often. I run mobile 1 synthetic ATF in mine and it works really well. There is so little of the fluid it gets dirty really quick. I change it about every other "long" ride. Its a 5 minute job to change each side, and well worth it.
Your hub is disengaged, but still engaged enough to drag the wheel - changing the hub fluid with synthetic will help slick things up enough you shouldnt have any problems. If you notice it starting to drag again down the road (Assuming changing the fluid fixes it) its probably time to change it again.
Hope this helps. Its a cheap fix - so hopefully thats all thats wrong!

when you took your hub apart, did you pull the bearings and inspect the armature plate? How did it look? Was it all solid and no paint off, or was there a ring around it where the paint was rubbed off and now the plate is getting magnatized?
Try doing some testing off a paved area, and drive in reverse for 20ft, you may have to go even further.

Well I figured I would post up what I did to fix it. The hilliard clutch was actually locked into place. The little rollers were stuck solid in position, and the armatuer plate prongs were nearly flat. So I carefully took the spring off the clutch pried all the rollers out and very careflly made the gaps a bit wider till the rollers fit perfect. Threw the rollers back in put the spring back around it, and it was good to go. I also put on a new armatuer plate and the seal at the end of the hub. That seal was a realy big pain in the *** to get out, lets just say i sat there with my torch for 30 minutes heating that damn thing up to get it out. The new one went in decent though and is perfectly flush. No more pulling, no more leaking fluid, and she is working buetiful........Hopefully it stays that way lololol.
One question though does 135 psi for compression after a break in sound pretty decent for the polaris 400 two stroke?? Ive realy tried to break it in right. Definatly a major differance in power, i know my manul says 115 is the low so I was just wonderin what some of you get on your 400's compression...Thanks for everyones input it is greatly appreciated.

Hey, I just bought a 1995 Polaris 300cc 4x4 - the 5th time i went out on it, it has starting pulling sharply to the left, if i let go of the steering wheel i would be going in a circle, when i bought it the guy said the seal was leaking, any idea what the problem is?
