weird 400ex subframe question
#1
I am looking at '04 and older 400's and I kept shunning alot of them because it looked like the owners had the grab bar welded on. I put two and two together when ALL of the 400's had a one piece grab bar/subframe, and realized they come like that. If I buy an aftermarket grab bar of have my personal aluminum worker make me one, will I have to fab mounts for it? I'm a capabe steel welder and I would do it, but that seems strange considering how easy they bend. Someone enlighten me!

There was a company cutting off the back of the subframes and welding on 250r grab bar mounts. The sub frame on the back of the 400ex is very strong and there isn't much need to mess with it.
If you can weld, it can be done.

Nice! Thanks. I can weld, but I probably won't. For some reason it feels like you helped me with something else, and you were right. (450r shocks maybe??) I'll trust you on the strength of the grab bar.
