I'm looking to add a garage companion to the DS and am considering the Gas Gas 300 two stroke, anyone ridden one or know anything about them? Thanks fellas!

 

I there isnt very many of them around and they are very expensive.

 

I've only ever seen 1 run. It ran about like a piped and jetted banshee. Like was said before they are expensive and I would think you may have a hard time finding replacement and hopup parts.

i love mine! its a 04.parts are avalible at any gasgas dealer,allthough they may have to order them.
the engine is the same as the bikes use
if its a pre 05 model youll want to send the shocks to mx tech for set up,after that its tough to find a bike that rides better,smooth over the choppy stuff but hard as hell to bottom out.
they generally are jetted rich stock,after re jetting they run as good or better than other bikes in near stock form.
a good running bolt on yfz and trx will just beat it on crapos at st.anthony,
they are a very easy 2 stroke to ride with very broad wide power, you can let the clutch out and then give it gas with out stalling,tons of bottem end
the thing i like best is i can get on and go race,ride,dune,jump whatever i want
things i dont like,small aftermarket, geared too high for big dunes,allmost too much low end power and not quite enough top end.
geared down it would be a way better hillshooter,i almost always gate the 450's and just cant quite hold the gear i need at the top of the hill,gearing down requires a bigger rear sprocket and longer chain
i raised the cylinder on mine .040 and cut the head,it helped a ton,im very happy with it now and decided not to gear it,i dont care if its the fastest to the top of the hill,i do know with porting and a pipe and the normal 2 stroke mods it would be a runner,i think its better as a all around great quad that has enough power to have a great time
you can buy a new hold over 04 from gasgas right now for under 5800

the only things ive had problems with was the gas cap leaked,i had to reseal it and install a o-ring around the base

72mm x 72mm
the 05 up motors have redesigned cases and cylinders and have more power everywhere,06 up got a v-vroce reed valve stock,pre 06 use a rad valve.

Do they make stroker cranks for these beasts?

 

the gas gas 450 4 stroke should be out pretty soon if it isn't out already and looks pretty cool...You would be better off with a banshee I think alot more parts for them and are awesome
