i have been offered to trade my ds, for an 04 red and black 480r honda, hmf full exhaust, 14:1 je piston, stage 2 hotcam, ported and polished head, t-dub 5 1/4 powder coated swinger, set of snows, and good dirt tires. i know the bike it was one of my buddies who traded it to another and he wont ride it. it had a new crank installed last winter b/c of the honda defect of forgetting thrustwashers. the bike runs real strong. i think i would get to keep my 48hsr b/c he doesnt like the throttle pull of them. lets hear it let me know what you think ill put a pic of the honda along with my pics on my page. lets hear it! dont hold back.

That sounds like a sweet machine. I look at my 05 DS sometimes and think do I want to trade it? With me it comes down to reliability. I think the 650 has a pretty good reliability rating and I don't know what really compares to it. The raptor doesn't in my mind. It's too small and about the only machine that I may consider is the Kawa vforce. The bottomline here is that you may sacrifice a reliable machine for one that isn't. What do you want to do?

oh ya i get to keep my paddles too, i have weighed the pro's and cons and the bad part is one way or another i dont really care. i think the biggest hang up i have right now is that the honda is a kick start. oh and does it ever kick back. theres been several times that i thought it broke my ankle after it died. i havnt had my ds to the track since i got it back togather. the honda on snows is a very consistant 5.15 -5.2 bike.

keep in mind im a 145lb rider....

I would say throw a good set of cams in the ds and then take it to the track.

Remember, your talking a 400+lb bike that should easily run 4.9's with that same setup your listing in your signature.

Those 450's are quick because they are light. But as one has already said, they are very unreliable.

After you install the cams, start concentrating on shaving the weight and I promise, you will not regret it.

If we ever meet, I'll be glad to let you make a pass on a 300lb DS with a mild stock bore build and see what you think.

I own a Raptor which is moded similar to the Honda you are entertaining to trade for, however I purchased and ride a DS by choice. The reliability of a DS does not compare to a modded bike. Yes the Honda will be faster, partially due to the difference in weight, however the longevity of the engine life is greatly shortened. i.e. my rebuilt Raptor is only expected to last 200 hours.

I think you are being lured by a friend to a place where the grass is greener. Stick with the DS.

Come on, did you think a BRP/Can-Am forum would full of people suggesting you trade a DS for a Honda??

You can build a full blown 450 for about half the cost of a full blown ds.....but you know what they say.....you get what you pay for...........because, thats exactly what you would get with a full blown 450......yep, you guessed it.....a FULL BLOWN UP BIKE. Bahaahahhhahaahah,
