Found my Oil leak, How can I fix it? Help! 02'Baja
#1
YOU GUYS WERE RIGHT
Hello, my 02' DS650 Baja started leaking oil about 10 weeks ago. I thought it was leaking through the main engine gasket(have to split the engine to rebair).
But I just removed my front sprocket and realized I had fishing line wrapped around my shaft which has wore the engine case and the bearing is shot, I have finally found my leak! The way it ran down the engine it looked like the gasket.
Can I through a new bearing in there, is it hard to fix???

Are you the same one I had posted the fix for the other week?
Get a self screw with a good sized head. . . drive it into the meat of the bearing just enough to get a good bite on it. Get out your cat's claw (nail puller) and pull the screw head to pull the bearing out.
Check out the F650 web site - good write-up on it.

ya thats me, i was out in the garage putting new sprockets on and i found the problem, nylon rope was wrapped around the shaft. it melted and became hard and wore my engine case and bearing, im pissed because i couldnt find the leak so I took it to a Certified Bombardier dealer to figuer it out, they charged my for a rubber boob(from intake to carb), and a bunch of hours of labour. If they would of spent the time and helped me out would of been nice!!
so thats the only way to replace that bearing? Will the new one slip right in(press in)??

That's the EASY way to do it. You could pull the engine and split the cases and put it in but, I think this way is oh, about 100x easier.
Get a couple seals just in case things don't go as planned (been there!)
I used a socket and a rubber mallet to get it in there. Put a little grease on the bearing to get it to go. You'll be fine.

this oil leak has been driving me crazy
wicked, i just got my ds back together, let my buddy darius drive it he hit a tree and fuct her right up, rim,tie rod, steering stem, bars, leavers, ball joint.
1000$ touch, instead of getting stock parts I went with fireball racing 1up a-arms and steering stem, they look good, the paint was crap though(just on the tie rods)

If the seal is worn, you'll probably see the steel of the seal.
Go get two new ones first (one is for just in case you mess up the first one - been there!)
Once you get the seal you'll know what it looks like.
The seal is close to 1/4" material (doughnut shape. Comes off the countersprocket and fits into the case.
It could look like a bearing but, it is a seal. When you get it off, there is a spring that holds it tight on the shaft that is on the inside.

Ok, maybe thats it .maybe its the steel of the seal. It looks just like a bearing. I got a couple on order. Its wore right down to the raw steel, I cant wait to get it fixed!! Ill Try to get my pics on here there too big, got a 02' DS650 baja, and a 89' Suzuki LT500R, best of both worlds.
