Default 400ex - Where is the case saver?

Where is the case saver on the 2001 400ex? I have a Moose one to install but have no idea where it goes. Where I think it should go, does not match the bolt patter on the case saver.

take off the front sprocket guard. you will need to use an 8mm socket. then the case saver will go there. those bolts you remove actually hold the case saver and the guard in place.

I thought that was where it was but why would an aftermarket casesaver such as Moose be so small? I am a little leary of replacing the stock sprocket cover with it since it will leave my sprocket open like that. Thanks for the info. Brendan

the case save prevents the chain from wraping up around the sprocket and blowing a hole in your case
if and when your chain breaks

the after market ones dont cover the sproket so you can remove the sproket faster. they look cooler to me also.nice anodized or polished aluminum.

also they are thiner so you can run a larger front sproket and still have a case saver.

it is race stuff the stock one is just fine. i personaly would run a cool aftermarket shiny one though.

when you take off your stock front chain guarde you will see the stock case saver. it is actually behind the chain guard. but the bolts that hold the chain guard on hold the case saver on as well. you will see that the stock case saver is actually smaller than the aftermarket ones in most cases. that stock chain guard is there to just protect yoru feet and other obstacles from the chain. this piece isn't really needed.
