Wolverine and FMF Pipe Install Questions
#1
I just installed an FMF Performax on my 99 Wolverine, and I had a few questions. Hopefully some of you who have had experience with this can help me out.
1. The mounting tab which is welded on the pipe in front of the muffler does not seem to align to the hole in the frame. As such I left this as is and am relying on the muffler 'wrap-around' clamp to support the weight of the assembly. Has anyone managed to get both supports installed properly? Tips?
2. Has anyone had problems with the exhaust gases discolored or melting the plastic of the Wolverine? It feels alright when running, but I notice that the exhaust does vent near the plastic and a deflector is available if this is going to be a problem.
3. What is the stock main jet size, and what size did you go to after the mods?
4. Did anyone change needle clip position?
Thanks for your help.

I have a 99 also. Although I installed the Mega Max II, I think they would have similar mounting hardware. Try loosening the headpipe to give you some play. Also where the new pipe slides over the end of the headpipe, clean this surface with a wire brush, it tends to get carbon deposits here and wont fit properly. My pipe bolted up in about 15 min with no probs. The Wolverine comes with a 140 main from factory, which is rich for the bike. I run a 155 on mine due to mods. I would leave the needle alone. I did with mine and its fine.

My error - it is a MegaMax II, not a performax. I will try to loosen the head pipe a bit more to see if a proper fit can be made. If you were able to line your 99 up it provides me with some inspiration to spend a little more time with mine.
I will leave the main jet as is for now then. A K&N Filter is back ordered for me, and I have picked up a package of the 1" round air filter vent plugs - you know the kind? The ones you use when you drill holes in the air box so minimal dust can get in? They are 1" round, come from UNI, and have foam filter material inside them. Should provide better breathing without sacrificing too much except for water crossing depths.
Thanks for your response.
Brian.

If you drill the airbox, and use a K&N I would go to at least a 150 main. Its better to be a little on the rich side. Lean burns valves. Remember everytime you increase airflow, you must increase fuel flow and vice versa.
