2000 Eton 90 bogging out
#1
I am having problems with my son's E-Ton 90. It boggs out at the top end. I checked the plug and it looks good. I cleaned the air filter and that is good now, but the problem still exists. Every once in a while it will run good but then the problem comes back. Could it be that the automatic(electric) choke is sticking? (The way it is acting reminds of the way a bike runs if you forget to turn a manual choke off.) Could it be something electrical? Any advice on what you may think the problem is and any fixes is greatly appreciated.

If it is the electric choke that is causing this, it would most likely not idle once the engine is warm either. Their is a quick way to eliminate this as a possibility. When it starts this "bogging" again, unplug the choke. A short way up from the carb is a connector for the choke. Unplug it. This kills the choke from working. Their is a small chance that the plunger may actually be getting physically stuck in the carb. If so you should be able to take off the choke and clean it.
It could also be alot of other things as well. Some times these minis will develope fuel flow problems. Check the fuel line for good flow. They also can develope venting issues. Make sure the vent hoses on the carb aren't pinched or plugged with dirt. The gas tanks can get vapor locked. If this is the case while it is bogging, loosen the gas cap a little just long enough to see if this is what is causing it. It could also be an electrical issue. Like the stator, coil, or even CDI. It may even be a short in the wiring harness or spark plug cap.
What does the spark plug look like when it starts doing this? Is it wet or really black in color? Alot of different possibilities still at this point. Check some of these things or if you have any other info, let us know.

Well, here is an update.
Once you hit the throttle it just spits and sputters and will barely even make enough power to move the quad. It will never stall out but just boggs no matter how much throttle is given. Once you let off throttle it will idle fine.
I have cleaned the carb completely, put a new fuel filter on it. It already had clear fuel lines. I checked for vapor lock in the fuel tank and it is fine. I know for sure that it is getting fuel. It has a pipe on it and that is totally clear. It has a clean spark plug. I checked that it is getting good spark, and as far as I can tell the spark is good. I am thinking that the problem is electrical. Is it possible that that the coil fails at higher RPM's? Please help, we are going to Glamis next weekend. Can the ignition switch cause problems as well? Is there a way to test the coil and ignition switch?
Thank you in advance
