We're heading out for a week-end of primitive camping and 4 wheelin. Would you like to share your "camp fire" coffee recipe? Gotta have that one or two cups of java in the mornings.............

Just buy a percolator and and your favorite pre-ground coffee (folgers, maxwell house, dunkin donuts, any specific 'breakfast blend' would taste nice too. The camping percolators are kind of bulky though.
Are you camping in one spot or going on rides to each camping spot? Just curious how your going to haul your gear on the atv. Backpack or one of them atv trailers.

Yes a percolator is bulky and they tend to clog up. We're using a 14 x 14 wood shelter in the woods that has 50 miles of trails leading in different directions. We'll return to the shelter for evening meals but will be cooking over an open fire with a cast iron dutch oven. I'll probably just boil the water and toss in the grounds "just like the old days" except I'll use Folgers packets to avoid the grounds. I'll be riding a 4x4 Ute with front and rear rack bags in case we need to haul some short term supplies. I started the thread because alot of people do it different ways (egg shells, splash of cold water, presses, etc) to get the grounds to the bottom. The other three are riding sports and wearing back packs. We love to ride and we love to camp.

You got me man, I'm guessing the folger single serving bags would be the easiest, cleanest way to do it. Don't forget the REAL maple syrup for the bacon. them lil pancake mixes work good for camping, just add water....
man you got me itching to go camping now, but its too freakin cold out here.

You aint done nothing till youve dumped hot water through 2 paper towels and coffee while trying to catch it all with a cup. This had to be done after you realize your forgot the filters!!!!!

I'm geting a mental picture of that and have to laugh. Another true coffee addict............and yes it is going to be freakin cold, but I'm jonesing to go camping. Coffee in the morning and then cold beer and camp fire tales at night.

Make the coffee in the same cast iron coffee pot we have been using over a campfire for better than 50 years. Put in the grounds, add cold water and bring it to a boil. Take it off the fire, let it set for a few minutes and pour gently so you don't raise the grounds. Good coffee doesn't need to be complicated.

Yes cold beer around a warm camp fire and lets not forget the peach brandy...............We have a wood burning stove in the shelter to keep us warm. Then its steak and eggs on the cast iron griddle before hitting the trails in the morning, and lets not forget that cup of "cowboy coffee". The recipe that tencubed posted and has used for 50 years is an old time tested way to make good coffee. Happy trails.................

My greatest investment was a good dutch oven set to use while camping, good lord that made cooking so much better and more fun. As the years pass i finally am starting to enjoy camping for the visiting, cooking, relaxing. I love waking up early and seeing the deer, listening to the fish flop.... When you live 2 blocks from the mighty mo river its a law that you love camping.
Damn I cant waite.
