2006/2007 Wolverine 450 4x4 Opinions Please
#1
Hey all,
Right now my wife is riding a Polaris TrailBoss 330 (P.O.S - Never Again), Anyway, I am looking to get her a REAL ATV. I ride a Suzuki LT-Z400.
She Doesn't really need utility. But she definitly doesn't ride Sport (No jumps).
I would like to get her something with more power than the 330, She can't even keep up with me when I'm in 3rd gear.
The only thing she will do with the ATV that is work related is plow our drive way in the winter, The most snow we ever get is maybe 1'.
Otherwise We'd like to have a wench incase we make a wrong turn on a trail and end up in a 4' deep mud pit, and she needs to pull me out (Not that it has ever happened ) )
We'd also like to have a hitch incase we want to get a pull behind mower, or move around an empty trailer.
I know the wolverine can have both a wench and a hitch.
I have been to 2 dealers both were trying to talk me into the Grizzly 450 4x4, saying it has Low gear, a locking front diff, front/rear racks, and 4-wheel Independent suspension.
I don't know that any of those features will ever come into use for her/us as 90% of the time she just rides around the yard and in the snow, about 2 times a year we will go to a Riding park and ride some moderate trails (Which I can do with my Z400), and roam around the sand dunes. We TRY NOT to go into mud pits.
So I just wanted to get some input from Others, and maybe from people that might have experience with this model, and or own the model.
Thanks all,
-TheChad

I bought my wife a 2006 Wolverine 450 and she loves it. We went with it for the same reasons you are thinking about getting one. She just doesn't need all the options I have on my 450 Grizzly. So far it seems to be a great machine. It handles much better than my Grizzly and is fun to ride. I haven't had to pull her out of the mud yet the 4x4 works really well. I would definately recommend one. The dealers are really good at convincing you that you need more. They make more money that way. I bought the 06' brand new after the 2007 model came out and got a great deal on it. Not much difference in the 06's and07's. Good luck. If she likes it buy one!

That's awesome that you have both the models I mentioned!
Are they about the same speed/power? The 2 are right around the same price. As you mentioned I had a feeling the Wolverine would handle better, which would be better for her.
If you don't mind me asking, What price did you get on the '06? My Dealer offered me $5600 OTD on an '06 today. Even though its only color, my wife said she didn't like the wolverine when she saw the white and blue ones (I love the blue and white ones), but when she seen the 2007 Special Edition All black, and the standard Silver, she said she liked that model.
Thanks for the input!

The Wolverine is a little quicker off the line. I'm not shure about the top speed but its lighter so I'm shure it's a little faster. I paid $5500 for her 06' and around $6500 for my 07' Grizzly. The new Wolverines are about $6200.00 I think. My wife liked the new colors better too but the offer was too good to refuse. The new special edition looks awesome!

The wolverine has a top speed of around 52-56 depending on who you ask, mine is around 54mph, I love my wolvy and have made a few mods to it and will make some more when the cash flow allows it, I dropped my mph down to about 50 right now because of the clutch kit, But most of my riding is not at top speed so I like the added low end grunt I have now. I love the looks of it and the handleing is spot on, I think its the perfect trail quad(in arkansas for sure where we have huge rocks and rivers and all kinds of other crap on the trails I ride.) I have an old moto 4 250 and this is 10 times the quad it is.
If she is not planning on carring much with her when you go then the lack of any real racks wont hurt but I would suggest getting the six pack rack so that she could carry a little cooler for some snack or something on it once in a while.
I paid 5250 out the door for my 06 white 450 (white if you turn it over doesnt discolor the way the black, blue or even silver will on the plastic, I know from experience). I could have gotten the 07 for 5750.
I could have gotten one about 2 hours drive for 5100 out the door, but it wasnt worth my time and losing a sat. of riding to save 150.00

Oh the pastics if you can save about 275.00 on the quad will pay for the front and rear fenders to change the color if she really has to have it.
front is like 79.00 here and the rear is like 96.00 then you have to add the front grill which is like 30.00 I think.
(I priced the front and rear for mine when I rolled it. They are about 1/2 the price I thought they would be.)

I got one for my girlfreind last March. She loves it! It is an easy ride and it does well in the dunes at Glamis. I put on a pipe and clutch kit. So far I am happy with the outcome.
Glad I got it!

What exactly does that Clutch kit do for you? Change the gear ratio? Less slip? I assume you get more torque if your loosing top speed?
Thanks,
