Default Recon 250TE battery reads 12.23 but won't start

I have a 02 recon 250 Te its electric shift and I can't get it started . I turn key to on(nuetral light is on)Pull up choke try to start and it clicks like crazy. I tested the battery it reads a 12.23 so its good.gonna try to put a new battery in.
but it seems pointless to replace it considering it reads fine . could it be a solenoid, or battery cable loose, or spark plug. I need help !!!!!If it is any of those things I need to learn how to do it myself any ideas?
taking it out of state to ride in 4 days!!!
any ideas would be great

The "clicking" noise is generally caused by low voltage to the starter. Test the battery voltage when cranking. It should be over 9 volts. Check voltage at the starter when cranking--should be the same as battery voltage reading.
Take those readings and report back with the results.

Reading the battery voltage is only good for when its under load. Keep the voltmeter hooked up while pressing the starter button, and watch the voltage drop.
Any auto parts store will test the battery for free, like autozone or napa.

If the reading at the battery is under 9 volts, then either the battery is bad, or the charging system is bad.

If the reading at the starter is under 9 volts, then it could be poor connections (positive or negative), bad solonoid, or a bad starter.

I guess you know it has a recoil (pull starter just like a lawnmower) if you need it for a backup while you sort your electrical problems out............
