pre wired winch hookup for an 06 Sportsman????
#1
Can someone help me with where all the pre-run wires are located and where the ?solinoid? (black box) should be mounted on my 06 sportsman 800? I just ordered the polaris 2500 pound winch kit part # 2875879. I did a quick search and was unable to locate any info on this. I love pictures if you have any of this being done if not detailed directions will work for this SLOOOOOW person so use small words.LOL

Here goes it, first mount the switch on the handle bars remove the brake mt bolts and replace them with the long ones and spacers, then unplug the wires for low beam headlights and remove the front bumper, route the wires through the opening under the storage comp and bolt the winch with the long 5/16 bolts provided(youll see where they go once you have the winch up there), under the right front fender there is 2 bolts securing a bracket on, remove the two bolts and use a side cutters and cut the little tab that sticks out of the bottom, once you have that off your neg and pos wires are located there under the black pillow looking thingie, the bracket is where the black box will get mounted, take the white connector from the switch on the bars and plug into there and mount the neg to black term, pos to red, blue to blue and yel to yel, in the back of atv there is a red wire with a yellow heat shrink over it cut the shrink off and install on pos terminal of battery, the small red wire from the switch on bars goes to the orange white wire under headlight pod, if you want to get extra credit to yourself you can cut out the front cover on the bumper to accomidate where the winch goes so ya dont have to see the whole thing. Sorry so lengthy but I have probably installed about 200 of these. Hope this helps. Happy riding

jta4455's instructions are correct. However your winch will come with illustrated instructions, which for the most part are complete. In the mean time if you don't have a tube of dielectric grease I suggest you buy one and when ever you make any electrical connection use the grease. Additionally if you don't want to cut up your front cover you can buy an already cut one from your dealer for about $7.00 and if it doesn't come with the little Polaris star on it and you want one that will be another 8 or 9 bucks (don't remember for sure).

Take off any rings you have prior to doing this. I was reminded of this as I was reconnecting the battery after installing the winch and I made contact with the battery terminal and the engine block after installing the negative cable. Took some gold off my wedding ring and about a 16th of an inch of skin off my finger....

If you don't want to cut your front cover and want it to look extra smooth, just order the pre-cut one from your Polaris dealer, or purepolaris.com. If I remember correctly, it was like six bucks.
