Default Raptor 700SE Rear Shock Adjustment

I recently purchased a Raptor 700 SE and I am trying to setup the rear suspension on this machine. My other quads came with a tool used to adjust the jam nut and adjust the nut for the spring. This quad did not come with that tool. So I have a few questions. First, I would like to know if this bike is supposed to come with this tool? If I am supposed to have it I will have to call my dealer and have them order it for me. If I am supposed to buy a tool for this can someone give me a part number and a place where I can place this order?

My second question concerns making adjustment to the compression. There is not a lot of room to access the jam and adjustment nuts on the top of the shock (I tried using the suspension tool from my Kawasaki), this may have to do with the fact that I am using a Kawasaki tool on the Raptor. I am sure that the proper tool will make all the difference in the world. Does other people have the same difficulty adjusting the rear shock?

Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,

Jeff

I have this bike too. No, it does not come with an adjustment tool. You can gently loosen the top lock nut on the spring (there are two) with a punch and gentle hammer blows, and then after taking the weight off the quad grab the spring with your hands and physically turn it clockwise to increase the tension. Then snug back down that top lock nut. Good luck using a tool to turn the notched collar...there is little to no room in there to put it in the first place. Maybe that's why it doesn't come with one. I have always adjusted mine by hand. As far as the compression adjusters, the big nut is NOT a jam nut. It is the low speed compression adjustment. the inner screw is the high speed compression adjustment. (to the best of my memory) Each controls a separate adjustment circuit. As you adjust them, you can feel the individual clicks. You will have to decide on how to adjust them to fit your particular riding style. Good luck. By the way, you made an excellent choice of quad! I love mine.

Removing the airbox makes preload adjustment a heckuva lot easier, been there, done that.

Lotus,

Thanks for the post. I didn't think of that, I will have to do that.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Jeff
