Viper 70 Sputtering
#1
Hey Folks,
New to the board!
Our 05 Viper 70 2 stroke has developed a sputter that I can't seem to get rid of. It still runs well enough for him to ride, but you can hear it's no longer revving out smoothly. It seems to get worse the longer it's ridden, and it also starts blowing more white smoke? For instance, starts OK, blowing a little cold and burn off smoke as usual, runs OK for 5 minutes with little smoke, then starts sputtering and blowing more smoke. It will then start right back up, so I don't think the plug is wet fouled, but I didn't look at it the last time.
I've done all the usual:
Cleaned air filter, cleaned carb and jets, replaced fuel filter, replaced plug, compression checks at 115 psi and shows no change on a wet test. I'm starting to think stator or overly generous oil injection? He does love riding through mud and creeks ... I know ... he loves it and on our trails it's hard to avoid. I've seen the posts on dielectric grease and will definitely do that.
Opinions? Does anyone have output specs/testing procedure for a viper 70 stator?
Many Thanks PRSPlayer

Check the wires that attach to the coil..They tend to get loose after awhile and cause a misfire..Just pull them off and squeeze a little with some pliers till they fit nice and tight..Also make sure there is no corrosion while you have them off..

Thanks for that reply, I'll definitely give that a try. I'm hoping to tear into this weekend and will post back results. We've been in a cold snap, so it's not like we're missing riding time :-(
