Battery Tenders - Who uses them?
#1
Hey All,
New to the ATV w/a battery scene so I am wondering who takes theri battery out (if they don't use their ATV over the winter like myself since I own a snowmobile) and puts a battery tender on it?
I seen one from Harbor Frieght tools for only $7.99 on sale and the Battery tender brands are like $40... so wondering if anyone uses the Harbor Frieght one?
Thanks

I use a battery tender jr, and leave it on all the time. It works well, and comes with a permament attatcment, so all you have to do is plug it in at the end of the day, without getting at the battery, kind of like a block heater on a car.

I've had my '03 600 on a B.T. Jr. since new. It's hard wired in, just unplug and go! Just make sure to keep an eye on your water level in your battery though. When I had mine in for the Warn contacter recall last week, the dealer tested my battery, and said it was still at 90%, Not bad for almost four years old!

i have the four bank battery tender so my quadrunner, harley, brute, and truck all have a connection. they have a pigtail so it is an easy task to hook up the charger.
i dunno about the cheap ones. maybe fine, maybe not.

You need to watch out for the ones that DO NOT TURN OFF and KEEP CHARGING AT A 2 AMP TRICKLE CHARGE!!!!!!! You need the ones (like Battery Tender) that Keep an eye on the system and turns it ON and OFF when needed.............This prevents over-charging and the level to remain topped-up!!!....Caper..........

I use a Schumacher Battery Companion charger/maintainer. It's fully automatic and does a fine job. I can leave it plugged in for 2 hours, 2 days, or 2 months. It doesn't matter.
Battery chargers/maintainers are not rocket science. There are many fine ones on the market, just watch out for the junk. No need to get hung up on one particular make or model.

The one at Harbour frieght works just fine. Its a tender not a charger. If you have a weak or dead battery it will take a very long time to charge it up. I've been using the Harbour one for about 3 years on my boat and every spring the battery is fine. I just leave it hooked up all winter. For the money it was a good buy for me.
