Help with new JM 150!!!!!!!!!!!!1
#1
Alright. my friend got the new JM 150 today from Raceway. First of all - it came without a sinle instruction! It's not hard to figure out but that is kinda weird. But I can not get the thing to start. I changed the plug and tried hotshot in the plug and it will occasionally fire up but only after flooding the carb. The throttle cable seems to be messed up and there doesn't seem to be much feedback from the throttle (very loose). After all the hype about this machine - it hasn't started off well. Someone please help as my friends son would love to take this thing out tomorrow!!!!

Alright - a little more info... We can get it started now but it only idles at a decent speed with the choke held wide open. When we close the choke it revs up very very high. We have messed with the idle screw but it seems to have no affect. Any ideas????

I'm guessing this is where the problem may lie. You say it idles when the choke is held wide open, Open is the normal position for a choke! a closed choke should lower the idle and will eventually kill it. It sounds as if to me the cable is not adjusted properly or the slider in the Carb is stuck open for some reason. So when you say it revs up very very high the Choke is in fact totally open and the slider in the carb is stuck in an open position which is like holding the throttle open. I may be completely wrong but the top of the carb is where I would look!

The throttle does snap back fine. In order to keep the quad running at all we have to pull the choke open and basically treat that as the gas. When we close the choke (push it back in) the quad revs up out of control. We read a post somewhere else about adjusting the needle in the carb and we did this but seemed to have no effect.

It still seems to me it's the adjustment of the cable or the slider in the top of the carb is stuck! It's been awhile but the top where the cable goes in should screw off and then you should be able to lift the slider out of the carb. it will have a spring on it and my guess is when the guy ran the cable he did not reassemble it correctly!

When you push the choke lever back in it does in fact "open" the Choke butterfly to let all the air flow by freely.

ck500, try turning the fuel screw out 1/2 to 3/4 turns. Its the screw on the bottom of the carb. Its probubly going to be easier to take off the carb to make this adjustment but it might be possible to turn it out with needle nose pliers. I usually out one bolt and loosen the other side so I can twist the carb to one side and reach the screw easier.

had the same problem on a sunl 125cc. the cap where the throttle cable goes into the slide was not properly seated (was not screwed down far or tight enough) causing the slide to not close down enough. reseated the cap, made sure it screwed down to cover all threads and was tight. fixed the problem
