Well I am either going to buy a 2001 Honda Sportrax 400ex or a 2001 Honda 4x4ES Foot Shift and I was wondering what you guys think I should go with? I like the 400ex because its a awesome quad and has alot of power but I also like the Rancher but I would rather have the 400ex so what do you guys think?I will not be pulling anything,I will be riding in woods for fun and will be on long straight dirt roads running the quad probably wide open so what do you think?Any Info will be appreciated. Thanks Matt.

For what kind of riding you will be doing it sounds like you need a 400EX. It is a great trail machine and is awsome in the open.Even if you got a rancher you would want a 400EX after a few months.

Wow, those are some rather different quads. I have a 400EX and knew that was what I wanted without a doubt. No offense, but I would never consider a quad like a Rancher for myself. Probably, just like most people who want a Rancher dont look at 400EXs as well.

The 400EX is a great sportbike, and of course the Rancher is a good utility machine. I just think you have to look at what you want to do with your quad.

If you want to do fast trail riding and maybe some jumping. You definitely want the 400EX. Dont buy a Rancher and then ride it like you would a 400EX because it is just not made for that. Just like you wouldnt buy a 400EX as a hunt quad or a farm utility quad, or to haul a trailer.

Obviously, the decision rests with you. I also think you have probably already figured it out. Maybe, you need to change your name to Sportrax400EX.

I went with a Honda Recon b/c the auto clutch was a bit more beginner friendly. It has been a great machine, pulling through mud, jumping jumps, and running up sand dunes. My husband has a 400ex; that's what I'm going with as soon as the Recon is paid off. I feel like I've grown out of the sport/utility machine. If you like wide open, you'll appreciate the 400 more than the more mud oriented machine. Good luck on your choice

why, buy em both! I like my Rancher, but a 400Ex looks like a whole lot of fun, even for and old geezer like me! have a wonderful time on whatever you do decide to get.

i think you would be much happier with the 400ex since you don't plan on pulling anything. as long as you don't ride in deep mud you will be fine. i have a rancher 4x4 and i love it. i like mud riding a lot and i also plow snow with it. oh, bye the way they don't make a ES foot shift. lol, just kiding i got what you where saying.

Most people that own a 400 EX say that they are way down on power. From what you described, it would suit you better.
