Rancher420fm or Foreman500fm
#1
Hi all, I have just put down a deposit on the new Rancher 420fm which should be released here in the uk this month. However I am still unsure if I have made the right choice, should I have gone for the foreman fm instead? Can any one tell me what the difference in power is as there is only 55cc difference now and the Rancher is efi. Also why do people have a problem with Honda using a solid rear axle on their utility Quads coz that's one of the points that make them a true utility machine, you don't see tractors with IRS do you! The last Quad I had was a Bom Outlander and the IRS is no good for using implements if you want to be precise as the tow bar moves up and down with the suspension. I think IRS is good for leisure and sport Quads only.

One of the magazines had a Rancher along while they were testing the Foreman, and they said the Rancher was way more "fun"! I say if you are looking to do some trail riding and light work, get the Rancher. If you are looking to do heavier work get the Foreman, and just accept that it won't be quite as nice a trail ride.
As for the airbox lid, mine fits very snug but for sure doesn't leak (just the opposite...it's to well sealed). I one is having an airbox lid problem, that is easily remedied while on warranty...which is now 1 full year.

I have a 420 and a 500 foreman, both great bikes. You mention pulling impliments, that sounds more like a foremans job than the Rancher. The Foreman is bigger , longer and heavier and has more of the tractor like feel to it than the Rancher. In pulling it isn't so much about power as it is gearing. Alot of big tractors have very little horsepower.
