Default Aftermarket carb questions

Ive read many posts on carbs but have a few more.I have my ds that only has a k&n on it and will be getting a modded end cap soon.Eventually i will save some cash for a carb. But i want to keep the same setup as the old carb with the boot and so forth. So whats the best carb for a near stock ds.And the easiest to work on(if any are really different). What power gains will i get from the carb and the end cap/K&N rejetted?I plan on rejetting the whole bike once i get the carb.Any opinions on the best carb for me?Thanks

I am personally running the Lectron 48, and we have the TM45 on my dads bike. Both are great carbs and provide very nice gains on a stockish DS. You will get varying opinions on those 2 carbs, but the final point, is both are very good, and both are easy to work on. The Lectron is different from the stock and TM45 in how it works so jetting is a bit more learning envolved to it. If you are sticking with the thumb throttle you will want to read up on hightowers information on how to combat the difficulty of pull on the TM, but those are the only downfalls I see....

your stock carb will feed some decent hp. i dont think if your putting an end cap on that you should swap carbs yet. for the money you wont see that much of a gain. i dont know where your located but on mine with full exhaust and an full airbox with cut snorkle tubes i was running a 170 main, 2nd clip from the bottom on the needle and between 2 1/2 to 3 1/4 turns out on the air fuel screw. had to play with it until i got it right and i cant remember exactly how far out it was now. theres guys out there running 730 duners still running stock carbs. power for the dollar exhaust and a wood or vortex cdi, sprockets and full exhaust will get you further than a carb. for a new lectron your looking at a min. of 350 and for a tm/hsr your looking at 600 and up by the time you buy the intake, cable, and adapter for the carb. by the time it was said and done with my hsr48 i had 750 in it all. good luck!

last weekend at dumont, Aceisback, blackhawk, and ace's son did all the old man racing mods to my stock carb. cut the spring, drill the extra holes, grind down the washer...

man, what an improvement! I was running with lectron 46's and tm 45's

with ace's son piloting my bike up comp (there wasn't many people) he was winning hands down.
he even said that he thought that my bike was now faster than his

i have big gun race full, and a k and n

Has anyone every ran a stock carb with Oldman Racings carb mods on it, with a higher compression piston and aftermarket cams..stock bore?

I have my stock carb running awesome and am getting ready to add a 14:1 and A1/A2 cams with a TM45. I'd love to be able to get close to the same power output with keeping the stock carb. I have already bought the piston and TM. Will probably run the TM and switch back to the stocker after the work is done to see the difference...assuming I can get the stocker jetted correctly after the build.

My old school stock carbed 2000 heavy DS has even takin down my buddy on his new Outlaw...which, by the way, has the KTM motor!

I did all of OMR's carb mods, even the air tubes and stepping up to the TM45 was a big gain. The midrange is just stronger and with the pump working the response is better as well.

I would not go back, and I only have a Big Gun CDI, ported intake, No-Toil filter and a quiet slipon.

dingo if your going bigger carb bump up to the tm/hsr48mm. "the 48 on gas is like having a 45 on alky" is what a was told by the bom. i had one on my 650 14:1 and it was a pretty good runner as long as you could keep it pointed straight out of the hole.

I went from a stock carb on a stock eng to a Lectron 46 on my stock engine and man what a difference. I found that tuning the Lectron was easier than I thought with the help of Viper, thanks by the way for the help.

Lectron 48 here, and man what a difference. Throttle is a little stiffer than I had hoped but its not a big deal at all. Power is awesome!

Keep in mind that whatever you go with you will need to get your intake ported.
