Raptor 80 exhaust
#1
Hey guys....I was wondering if any body could tell me if there is an exhaust restrictor on the pipe of a raptor 80 up near were it attaches to the cylinder head? I had seen this mentioned in the forum a while back and was wondering if its true. Ive already removed the baffle at the rear and removed the airbox restrictor plate. Thanks for any help!

Try cleaning the carb take the jets out and make sure ther clean !the way the air cleaner is on the r 80 makes it easy to get water in the carb when u wash it. pull the carb and clean it ill almost guarantee it will run better

StillZ1,
I do not know of any exhaust restrictor on the Raptor 50/80. I do know that the CDI and air box limits the quad.
If it idles ok with the choke on then its idling lean and possibly too low. there are two screws on the carb. on the riders left side. the one with the rubber cover over it is the idle/air and the one not covered is the idle speed. take note of how many turns the idle/air is now set at (so if you can't get it running right you can at least get back to the starting place) and then adjust it from there. I have adjusted it by turning it clockwise until the machine runs rough and then adjust it counter-clockwise until the machine runs rough again and then adjust clockwise back in 1/2 to 1 turn (or until the idle is smooth). the theory is that your looking for the point where the idle speed is the highest, at this point the idle/air mixture is correct. When I adjusted it for our raptors I found I also had to change the idle speed slightly.
We have owned raptors for a year and a half now and have put loads of hours on them, under some rough conditions, and they have been great machines (want to read about some mini-quads with problems just click into one of the chinese mini-quad topics). I would suggest a high-rev CDI, a carb. main jet change, a set of ITP holeshot tires/rims and a set of rear wheel spacers.

Thanks nc..I will try this...do you think the valves may need adjusted already? I know the dealer says to adjust them every couple oil changes. The quad runs good but once it warms up and you have to turn the choke off...it will idle alittle weak for a while and then just shut off...If you start it back up it will idle weakly ,act like its missing under light throttle..but recover good under mid to full throttle. Almost like its alittle fuel starved. Ive seen guys on here talk about bigger jets but im not sure if it needs them or not...guess im used to my Z... fire it up ...and go!! lol
