Moving up a tire size?
#1
Well.. I got a 01 Xplorer 250.. Got a 23 incher on the front and a 24 incher on the back.. I am heading to QuadFest this year, they got good deals on Mudlites.. Can I move up a tires size without losing major low end power? (And I just got new chains and sprockets, so cant change those haha)
Thanks brothas

Hey Kawiking, welcome to the forum. I had a 2002 Xplorer with the 250cc angry chainsaw engine. I wouldn't recommend going up more than one tire size either. I think you'd end up really bogging it down if you go more than that.

you only have a 250 so any more then 1 size would be huge in power loss. like inst... said 1 size will ok, and in the mud i beleave you would notice a little in power loss. low range would be best.(cant remeber if it had it)

Hi Stendori, an FYI. The 250cc Xplorer did have a low range. The engine screamed like an "angry chainsaw" and belched good old blue smoke all the way but went well for a small engine (I sometimes miss the 2 stroke). That being said, the high range was really only worth staying in when you were someplace that you could open it up like a logging road or out on the ice. The low range was pretty amazing. It carried my 340 lbs. through everything except one mudhole. My top speed on a 3/10th of a mile frozen beaver pond was about 45 mph. So far I haven't gotten my X2 over about 55. I'll have to take the GPS and do a real speed test sometime.

Ok so half the guys on here say yes, its ok and half say no.
I am putting Mudlites on, and im less that 200 pounds (haha)
I would love to see for myself the total loss of power with them on, I mean it has low range and its mean, but I usually run in high all the time unless im pulling a large hill (12 degree pull once, wow - a first for me) I just dont like the overall look of the quad either, looks to much of a ***** rider to me, but thats my opinion.

the thing to really consider as well if you went w/ too big of tires and do alot of mud playing its hard on the drivetrain as well as loosing power. i would highly recommend ( i do w/ even my 800) using low range in the hard stuff or you will most likely burn your belt. yea i thought they did as a friend of mine used to have one yra ago. this is my 2 cents.

well I hope they have my size tires up there!
The front is a 23x7x10 and the back is a 24x11x10
I browsed through my Rocky Mountain ATV Catalog and saw the tires I wanted, they have the back wheels listed, but my front size is not.
