Default 03 SP 600 AWD Big Mess

First off I would like to say yes I have read most of the posts on this topic. Still confused

I spent the better part of the day working on my bike, hear is the problem

1. AWD always engaged except in reverse!

2. My CV boots are destroyed, I believe that is why it feels like someone else is steering

3. When I accelerate hard I hear a popping sound.

4. Bike runs good, but I need AWD to get out of snow piles when plowing.

Any suggestions Please!!!

This is a great forum, I have learned a lot thanks everyone.

so did u just buy this or did u have it for a while ....letting ice build up around the cv boot will destroy them...some one correct me if im rong but if the plastic cage inside the diff..goes it will make it harder to stear and will not kick in in some gear like clydes stated his wont engage in revers...

I would say the chunking sound is from bad CVs. I have seen were the plastic cage in the diff has kept the AWD while working in reverse on a 2005 sp 500.

I have had it since it was new. Never had a problem with it. The Ice build-up is a good possibility, it has been very cold in Michigan, when you plow the bike warms up, then you park it and the melted snow drips down the arms and freezes. I really don't want to take it in for service, I know i will get taken for a ride. Well I guess I should go buy a manual. How hard is it to fix this problem.
