i think i have made up my mind on getting an ex.My choices wer a 250r,banshee,or ex.i didnt want the r because it was old and wanted to jump.banshees arnt bad at jumping but wanted the best flyer since its supposed to be like the R.

my questions are:

can they keep up with other bikes as in shee and R??i want to jump nice but dont always want to get left behind by my ridding buddies with shees..

What mods should i do to keep up with other guys??i like the ex just dont want to have to sell to get something faster

First of all, I dont know wheather when you said ex if you are talking about a 300EX or 400EX.The 300EX is a bit lacking in power and speed behind the 2 strokes but not by far.The 400EX will not lack behind at all,it may even be faster. For a 300EX to roost the power and speed you can get a mid range cam.You can also get a FMF or DG exhaust. Both bikes are very good choices.

250X,DG skidplate,grab bar,nerfbars,Holeshots,Kehien carb.,and 300EX plastic

r's aren't to old to jump. my 86 frame holds up great. the 400's have swing arm problems but other than that will hold it's own against just about any quad that is in stock form. if i trail rode much i would get a 400ex. the one's i have ridden were great.

i own a 400 ex and they are worth every penny the only people you really have to worry about getting behind is a raptor a ds650 and highly modified engines. if i were you i would go with the ex they are a blast and can fly.

how do you figure they have swingarm problems?
my husband beats the crap out of his and has never had any problems. if you take care of your quad properly you will never have any of these problems.

2000 400ex (his)
2001 300ex (mine)

In our race series here in New England, there were a few swingarms cracking last year. These were not snapping off, but rather hairline cracks in certain spots. And again NOT everyone, but enough for everyone here to check theirs.

The 400ex can jump. The 250R can jump as well. You choose.

I did not like jumping the Banshee. I feel much more comfortable on the 250R.

Depending on the air you plan on getting, any stock quad will need aftermarket shocks for really big air. But you will not be disappointed in jumping the 400ex.
