Default Artic Cat 500 2000 No Start

Hi, I'm new on this forum and I've some problem with my artic cat 500 2000.

My Artic Cat won't start. Fire, compression, clean carburator and good timing. When I put my hand for blocking the intake. My ATV start and run untill I remove my hand. Choke seem to be working and carburator have been clean 3 times.

I'm suspecting the diaphragm but I'm not sure Can you help me ???

Thanks for answer

My dad has the same one (it is an auto) and I just used it yesterday to plow 20 inces of snow. I love that ATV.

Anyway, maybe you should give us more info, how long has it been sitting, did it run good yesterday, or has it been lacking power for a while, are you the origional owner, any other repairs ever done to it? Etc.

The diaphragm being bad would not stop it from starting. What you are doing when you put your hand over the carb is choking it even more than normal, there is no butterfly valve to choke the carb, but an enrichment valve tp ad extra fuel. I suspect you have one of several issuses, or any combination there of. The carb float level is so low that the motor is way too lean and or the idle mixture screw is set too lean. or the enrichment valve is stuck or plugged up. The last is a vacuum leak in the intake hose between the engine and the carb.

Right on Bear, my thoughts exactly. One last thought, if your spark plug is not gapped correctly you could be advancing or retarding the timing depending on ondergap or overgap. This could also play into and magnify other mal-adjustments in the carb and mixture.

A new spark plug is cheap. I've seen plugs causeall kind of strange starting anf running problems over the years. I replace my plugs at least every spring and any time there is an engine issue.
