Default new 800 efi tanny rattle

Just found your site...looks like the place to pick up some really good info.
I recently purchased a sportsman 2007 800efi and from the first day there has been a loud rattle comming from the transmission when under light load or on a downhill. I took it back to the dealer and he admitted it was louder than another 800 they ridden as comparison . He assured me they had contacted the factory and that this sometimes was normal with new machines (mine has 5hrs on it) and it would improve with time. I'm not saying he is giving me the run around but this doesnt sound normal to me...anyone else had tranny problems with the 800's

welcome to our forum whizbang. im not sure if your refering to the drive train rattles or not, but mine has done it since new w/ no problems at 660 miles or so. the main thing is that you brought it to the delaers attention, so if anything does happen, hes already awre of it and cant say its something you did.

Thanks stendori I feel better about this already. I guess the drivetrain rattle is what I am refering to. There seems to be a lot of slack in the drive train, when sitting in the shop with the engine off and the ATV in gear you can rock it back and forth and hear the clack of the gears. When running 20mph or so when I back off of the throttle just a little it rattles so loud I can hear it over the engine. Guess I will just have to live with it. I have had a 91 350 2WD 2stroke since new and really was impressed with the Polaris durability. I hope the 800 is as good.
Thanks again
whiz

I have not noticed any noise/rattle from the drivetrain at all on my 07 800 X2. I hope it stays that way. I do hear what I think is valve noise. I understand this is "normal".??

there is alot of slack in the drive train but when i brought it to the attention of the dealer when i first got it he said was normal. we rolled a couple of others(new) and it did the same thing. no problem as of yet w/ 650 miles of good hard riding.

Both my 2006 800 efi's have a lot of backlash in the transmission gearing. Ah well, they are miniature trucks not Corvettes heheh. Another 1.5 years of warranty, and if problems don't show up by then they'll probably never show up.

Thanks guys for all the upbeat input. I appreciate any and all experiences just to let me know my ride is "normal". I'll continue to ride the thing and just keep an eye on it.
Ride safe

I have a 05 800 I got it last week it has a rattle when you go downhill or very little trottle is pressed. It seems to be more noticeable in High. And is very noticeable if you speed up and let of the trottle quickly. I Know it has been answered but you other 800 owners are telling me this is normal? Thanks in advance.

reelfoot, welcome. yes its normal, like it was said it does have alot of backlash, hence why you here/feel it so much when your on and off the throttle.
