qwiksilver carbs

They are great the 400ex that just won their class in the LV 200 has one. The one on my DS650 is easy to start and pull hard in all the gear I can wheelie in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. The desert racer like them cause it gives them both better low end power and top end speed.

I installed one on my 440. The jetting features were certainly one of the selling points for me since, in Arizona, I ride anywhere from 1000ft to 7000ft above sea level. The engine would pull the higher rpms better with the Edelbrock carb than it did with the stock carb (with Dynojet kit). My cyliner head is completely stock (no porting or oversized valves). You will not see the top speed gains that the Edelbrock web page shows. The numbers they show (12-15 mph gains) were generated on a chassis dyno, and a chassis dyno does not account for aerodynamic drag (wind resistance). I would like to see a dyno comparison between a 440 using a 39mm Keihin FCR and the same bike with the Edelbrock.
The installation was straight forward, and it is a bolt-on. The stock airboots work as advertised. The throttle is definitely heavier than stock.

I did not notice any significant loss of low end. It is deceiving though, since you have to move the thumb throttle lever farther to get the same amount of engine response. This is due to the much longer throttle throw with the new carb. Just something to get used to. I will say that the midrange and top end are where the differences are felt.
The supplied needle worked great...there was very little tuning required. I checked the plug after my first ride, and it never looked better.

I put the carb on the 440EX I used to have. I recently sold it and got the 250R. My 440 had the 11:1 piston and the Web-Cam midrange cam. I think that in order to take full advantage of the higher flow carb you would want a ported head with oversized valves and a cam designed for higher RPMs. As far as power is concerned, I did not notice a $400 improvement. If I could do it again, I would have put the money into some aftermarket front shocks instead.
