what is the top speed of a stock 2wd scrambler 500? Is it faster than a stock 400ex? My dad was courious because he may trade in his sport 400 which he had to rebuild the top end twice in only 1 1/2 years. It hasn't been too reliable but the new 2001 models are suppost to have better brakes, steering system(as in not getting as loose) and a few other things. will the 500 be faster than his 400? thanks

I have a 2001 2X4 scr500.I syspect top speed to be in the neighborhood of 65 mph.I am just finishing my break-in.As soon as it warms up a little(mid 40's or better) I will change my oil and filter and will race my best riding buddy's 400 EX.I will post the results.Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will be out of this "deep freeze" we are in now.

I have a '00 Sp 500 and a '00 Scrambler 500 4x4.
The sportsman has never gone over 55-56 mph. with a little down hill slope. I would pay to see a regular sportsman 500 do over 60 mph. However, my Scrambler is a different story. I got my brother on the scrambler and i was in my truck on a dirt road to finally see how fast the scrambler really was. I got up to 64-65 mph. in my truck and he was still pulling away. I would guess he was doing at least 67-68 mph. You also have to remember that this is the 4x4 model and might be a little slower than the 2x4

Factory speedometers are almost always optimistic. The dealership I work at has a Stalker radar gun.We have radared many sportbikes as well as watercraft and have found errors as high as 15% to be not uncommon.I believe that my estimate of 65 to be close to correct.BTW,last summer there were several Banshees at our dragstrip, the best stocker ran 74 mph while one with pipes ran 78 mph on the Chrondike clocks. The next time someone tells you his stock Banshee will run 90,laugh out loud.

I have a 00 scrambler 500 4x4, and a buddy of mine has a 01 400ex. My scrambler will smoke him aff the jump but when we start winding out he came up beside me slowly. But we never did wind it al the out a car was coming.I raced some 400ex's with pipes, and paddle tires at the dunes, and mine is stock and it was who ever got the jump.
