Hi guys,

First, let me say I've been lurking the past couple months getting some great info from this forum. Many thanks to many of you who have (unknowingly) helped me with your past posts!

I recently bought a used 2001 Honda Recon and have been working to make it a dependable rider to use in mild trail riding with my 8-year old son who has a small 90 quad. The Recon's previous owner drilled a few small holes in the muffler - I'm assuming to make it louder? Anyway, I have a line on a used 2003 muffler from a Recon ES model. Does anyone know if the 2003 ES muffler will work for my 2001 Recon? I checked part numbers for new stock mufflers for each year and the part numbers and prices are slightly different:

2001 Recon - 18310-HM8-000
2003 Recon ES - 18310-HM8-A40

The mufflers look the same in the Honda parts diagrams (drawings) - but then again these are drawings of the mufflers externals only. They also look alike in picture I've found but ??

Any help is greatly appreciated.
