help ds250 wont start (no spark with ds250, but spark with eiger, on same plug)
#1
I basically told you what was wrong in the topic..... well my ds250 wont start. i ran out of gas in my field, i had been driving in my field basically just mudding in a huge puddle that was about 1foot deep (up to the foot pegs/ Nerf bars) and doing wheelies.
Well i ran out of gas, so i put it on reserve, and i thought i still had about 1/2 hour of gas left, but 15 minutes later, i ran out of gas (i think, it just wouldn't do anything when i went WOT) It shut off when i got stuck (just my luck and i got it started for 30 seconds, trying to get it unstuck. After it completely went empty, it wouldnt start again, so i got some more gas. It wasnt very old gas either, maybe 2 weeks old at the most. Well it still did not start so i just pushed/rolled it into my shed. I changed the oil (to check if it was milky/watery) and cleaned the spark plug. The spark plug tip was wet and BLACK. I cleaned it so that it was a bit less black. and it still didnt work. My dad suggested to just connect the sparkplug and not put it in the motor. Then we hit the e-start to see if there was a spark. THERE WAS NONE. So then my dad took the spark plug and hooked it up to our 2003 Suzuki Eiger 400 auto, and you could see the clear, strong, blue (or whatever electricity's colour is) spark in the dark. I had also washed the ds250 with a garden hose, but i had been dumb and decided to wash the mud off the ELECTRICAL system. I had thoroughly washed the thing that looked like the CDI (it was a little black box, about the half the size of an I-pod MINI)
What should i do? im waiting for it to dry right now, and im hoping it will start tomorow so i can have some more fun again.
What do you think could be wrong? its weird the water could have gotten into the electrical system as i have PRESSURE WASHED IT BEFORE AT 2000PSI!!! im very frustrated and mad at myself and the quad for not starting. its just very annoying.
IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD CHECK?? PLEASE HELP ME, IS THERE ANY HOPE?
thank you in advance

come one people. just reply, say some suggestions. surely one person has had something similar in their lifetime, even if it was on a ds650, outie, or renegade...... or even another brand

Well if there is water somewhere in the machine, drying it out could work, but how long who knows. Maybe something shorted from the water. Hard to see that happen though as I have swamped my out dated trike many of times in the past.
Water could be pooled up in an improperly sealed electrical component. Tough call.
You could see if the the stator is putting out any voltage as a starting point.

well the e-start works so it still has some electricity left in it. It also sparks now but it just wont start. I can feel the compression when I start it, but it wont catch on. no choke=nothing, half choke=nothing full choke=very LOUD BACKFIRE
I did run out of gas and then i filled it up again. could it be that the new gas is crappy (it is "bronze" 87 octane) should i drain the gas and put "gold" in it which is about 91 or 93 octane?

could it be that the carb is dirty, whatever junk/dirt that might have been in the gas would have been sucked into the carb at a high concentration when i ran out of gas
could it also be that the pilot screw isn't right?

by the way, how long does it take for the engine to not be flooded with gas anymore, i know that on a dirtbike you might as well not try to start it anymore after the 10th kick because the engine's flooded with gas. How long should i wait for it to be good again after about 1-2minutes in total of unsuccesful e-starting

Im not sure of the octane rating on your machine, refer to your owners manual. If it says 87, then use that. 91 or 93 will work, but a waste of money and you will lose power. Its has a lower flash point for high compression.
Yeah, next you could clean the carb out, backfire sounds like too much fuel dumping in. How does the plug look? Wet and black probably.
Try that, and report your findings.

ya the plug was always wet and black, but it has been black for a long time, now it just gets wet and keeps its black colour.
its meant for 87 (ron+mon)/2 in north america and 91RON outside of north america ( i really dont know what the letters mean but oh well, the numbers stand for octane right?) It has 10.6 compression, so i think 87 octane would be a bit low for it, even if the owners manual says it can take it
higher octane gas isnt a waste of money, its maybe $0.20 more per gallon and im only getting one or two gallons.

Thats good to hear I was going to tell ya that you most likely fried the cdi from water getting into it or a bad connection somewhere that shorted it out...Also if there is a very loud backfire like a shotgun start with the sparkplug and electrical components then carb etc...You may also want to get a new spark plug since it sounds like you are due.
