2 stroke engines...not tough? Yeah right!

I have very often heard this "2 strokes break too easily...bla bla bla".

I've reparing the shee for 2 weeks (polishing the side case was the longest...and the actual repair was 1 day long). Put it back together yesterday night, and forgot 1 thing: COOLANT!!! I noticed that AFTER the ride.

So I went riding today with my riding pal, snow was 1 foot deep, fresh powder...sweet.
The shee worked well (in snow), it did overheat some times (what would you expect when riding 5-10 mph almost max revv?). Each time it would overheat, I'd let it cool down 5 minutes, and go again. Since some water was coming from the little hose, it never came into my mind "darn, I forgot the coolant!". Anyway, I rode all day, often full throttle in "deep" snow.

Siezing in? What's that? 2 strokes fragile? hehe.

I should rather feel ashame to have forgotten the coolant, but one lesson, banshee engines are tough!! real tough...but...that also means there is a good margin to gain horsepower...yes!!!

PS: I'm filling the radiator tonight!!
PS2: My no coolant shee worked better than a scrambler!! ahahahahahah (his scram kept stalling after 100 yards...not fun...I had to pull him back home -see the signature, the proof is there!-)

What ever! I'm glad you didn't do any damage to your bike. But I guess time will tell, it still runs but you took many hours off you bore doing that! Next time, don't be in such a hurry to beat a scrambler that you forget about completing the job / doing you pm's.

2 stroke engines r tuff, but they are high maintenance. compared to the 4 stroke. thats all were sayin.

If properly used and maintenace preformed, they're last almost forever. Brother-In-Law has a 87 LT250r that'll beat(1 or 2 lenghts) my ds in a 1/8 drag(dry dirt, muddy I eat him alive). By the way........GO IRISH !!!!!!!!!

Zorro is right except for his mild dislikes for scramblers, the two stroke engine does get a bad rep, for what it's mostly the numnuts who can't mix oil right or keep up on jetting.
You guys on your Bloated 4 strokes have it easy cuz your machines have a rep for lasting "forever".
But when you finally do have a problem (especially with the new high performance 4 strokes) it is going to be costly and a head ache to repair.

I guess I've been mislead. I've always heard and from working on them understand the stroke is the engine you want. Keep up on your jetting and just put the oil up front(or mix golden w/turbo). I prefer the 2 stoke power band to the 4's but with the raptor and ds, they rev almost like a 2. Vmax12, I wasn't rip'en on ya. I just hate when people(Zorro & such) cut on the polaris's. It's been said many time before, but - I earned the money, I bought it, I ride it, I love it. Ya, polaris raised the prices of all quads back in the late 80's. But with that they have came along way and are now building a fine product for a selective group of users. Just like us reading this, some like Windows95 some like Windows98, some like WinNT and others like MSDOS. I like a quad that runs, runs fast and looks good.

It wasn't even in a hurry...I just can't figure why I forgot it!!! A lesson...I'll never do that again...that's for sure!
And yes, time will tell, and I'm pretty sure I did damage some stuff...probably the bore like you said.
I should rather say I'm lucky it didn't sieze in!

I'm not serious about the scrambler...my pal had a problem (his scram kept stalling...maybe the plug -thanks scramdaddy-), that's why I'm saying that...
Don't worry, it was just a joke (although I would never get a Polaris sports quad).
