Battery relocation...one more time.
#1
Several of you have cleaned up the subframe and have relocated the battery, shock reservoir and electronics. If I can get some better ideas, i.e. detailed pictures in addition to the arial shots I've seen it would help a lot. I've got zero experience fabricating with aluminum but have aquired some 1/8" sheet aluminum and I'm pretty handy with a jigsaw and pop rivet gun! I'm looking at a freshly powder coated frame and am dreading the idea of drilling holes or welding supports...yeah, hind sight 20/20. I thought of picking up one of the aluminum airbox/snorkel that I see on ebay...but $159.00 for something I'm gonna chop up doesn't make economic sense to me and sort of cuts into the *** end of my budget money that I already have plans for...
If I could get a collection of pictures from various angles and a little dialogue I'd be good to go...feel free to PM me if you're willing to share your design secrets!

I've got a box that should work for under the seat.
It is the same one that AZSand used on his bike.
You'll probably need to get some foam or go to TAP Plastics for some spacers as it wasn't a perfect fit on his. He did have the dry-cell battery in his box. Not sure if the dimensions are the same.

Jim:
Get pics from Meaner. He has the same alum. box as you so, should show you how to mount the box.
BTW, I'll box it up over the weekend and see if the Wife can ship out Monday.

Man have I been on a journey the last couple hours....took a trip down memory lane trying to find some information on a set of cams I have that I'm donating to a good cause and I cannot believe how fast 5 years has gone by! I couldn't remember the guys name or handle I bought them from--too many bumps on the head when I was a kid I guess?! Stumbled across the needed information and a good post that jogged my memory...
I don't post a whole lot compared to some guys but I do read a lot of posts...good information (sometimes) but mainly it's entertaining--not the mudslinging drama that sometimes unfolds, just the energy I guess that is intrinsic to the sport and the people that are involved! I still enjoy the heck out of this forum!!! And I sincerely thank you guys for the responses.
Thank you, Mark, for your contribution (and the throttle cable you sent me back in '03!) and amd (TJ) for the pics.

if you are thinging about replacing your battery anyway and were considering an odyssey dont buy the standard pc545. get the pc545mj which has a metal case slipped on the bottom of it. its just hot glued on and if you slip a putty knife down inbetweeen the box and the sides of the battery it will come right off. its a very tough yet light sheetmetal box that is custom fit to the pc545 and fits like a glove. I used one as a bettery box on my new build and it turned out awsome.

Good information that's going in my notebook! When are your pics gonna be approved!!! I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't wait to see the new build...you ought to consider posting them on a shared site with some video and sound to boot......were having fun now!

25 feet!! holy cow! I looked at the DS schematic wiring diagram for about 5 minutes and had to admit to myself that was a waste of time so I'll have to tackle my wiring when I get to that stage of reassembly. Getting my case covers chromed, new exhaust coated, flywheel lightened (maybe)
...btw, if you haven't already check jettrim for the new seat cover...very nice!

You'll have to post some pics of your progress.
I have checked out jettrim. I'll be hitting them or cascade up for a sweet cover this summer. I'm thinking a black rear fender would look better too. Don't know yet.

BTW- an $80 Dewalt angle grinder (4 1/2" with the metal gearbox) is your friend on a job like this. It was extremely useful through the entire build.

I wish I had some pics... but what I did was cut the stock battery box off the subframe, and cleaned up the subframe... I then used the stock box and welded some tabs on it to fit into the stock airbox mounting points on the subframe. I mounted it under the seat as far back as possible under the rear cross member. Hope that makes sense.
