Default Baja 50 from PepBoys in California

Can somebody please help! I'm having a problem trying to registar the baja 50 w/ DMV because they say it needs some sort of Federal safety sticker on it first. Has anyone heard of this or ran into the same problem??? Where would it be located?? I have called PepBoys and they say no one else has had this problem. And I have Baja Motorsports checking into it but according to them it should be fine.

I don't know what the Federal Safety sticker would be, but you are going to need a CARB Sticker which is issued by the state. The CARB sticker should have been in your paper work, or it will already be on the quad.

When you go to the DMV you are going to need your MSO, CARB sticker and sometimes the bill of sale. You will need to know where your VIN and engine numbers are located when they go out to do the visual inspection of the quad. I do believe this is the form you will need to fill out before the quad can be registered. Application For Title or Registration This is the same form which the visual inspection pertains to.

Since your DMV is giving your some trouble try a different DMV in your area or the next city over.

On your MSO if you got one from Pepboys it will have the Chinese manufacturer listed on it. Use this site here to see if the quads are even legal here in the state. Carb Certs.

Good luck with your registration.

SB.

Try Rancho Cucamonga DMV
Could it be the sticker that has the age requirement on it?

The offical name of the label is: Federal Saftey Standards certification Label and it will have the vin # on it. On the Verification of Vehicle paper, (the one the DVM uses to verify your vehicle) There is a place that says US federal certification label status: with these opptions to mark: agrees w/ vin, missing, disagrees w/ vin, illegible/damaged, none-NA or see remarks. Can see this on this form DMV Form 343 on the second page middle left side of page.
Why try Rancho Cucamunga DMV? Have you had some good experences there?

If you don't have the vin on the quad take it back to pepboys.
Sounds like something different then a federal safety sticker.
My son just took his driving test and was told rancho was easier.......not sure of anything else being easier.
I took my driving test 27 years ago...........in Pomona. .

girliedirtdiva,

Your best bet is to try another DMV. When I registered our Boreem, all I took to the DMV was the MSO, Carb Sticker and Bill of Sale. When the DMV rep came out to do the visual of the quad, they did the following:

Verified the stamped VIN number on the quad with what I had written down, they also wrote this down themselves on their form. They asked to see my MSO and carb sticker. They also verified the engine number.

I would really suggest going to another DMV, as my DMV never asked or even said anything about this item, but every DMV and DMV worker is different.

I have looked at my 07 Honda and the only stickers that are on it are: the manufacture date and where it was made, the carb emission sticker, 2 warning labels on the fenders one that states no one under 16 and the other one has a whole list of warnings pertaining to the operation of the quad. On the back of the quad is a sticker about the tire pressure. That's it.

Sorry to say that I don't know what this particular sticker is that you are being asked for. Hopefully someone else can help or again if you try another DMV maybe you can get it registered without a problem.

Good Luck.

SB
