Oil Change on the DS650
#1
Hi, I just got back in to the ATV ridding. I had a ALBA 200 Bombardier DS650 will all the toys. Now I just bought a 2004 DS650 Baja X (Black). I just found out that the company is now called Can-Am. Well, don't understand but my question is regarding the oil change.
I remember that on my 2000 model the filter was paper and that I had to blead it by releasing a screw and had to crnk it until oil came out prior to closing the housing. I also have noticed that the filter aparently changed for the 2004 models. I have a couple of concerns prior to starting the oil change and would like your help and input.
My questions are as follows:
What are the proper steps to take in an oil change on a 2004 DS 650?
Is their a web page or link that shows step by step process?
Is the K&N oil filter for the DS650 re-usable? Is it worth it?
What oil is recommended?
Thanks,
Joseph

The procedure is the same on the 04 with the exception of you being able to delete the bleeding portion. Only the stainless filters are reusable and they normally run about $65. Oil is pretty much a personal preference and you will get as many opinions as responses, but I have used Honda GN4 in all five of the DS's that I've owned and am more than satisfied with it's performance.

If you have Adobe Acrobate Reader on your computer. You can you can either save this file to your computer or click the link. In the maintenance section click on engine and oil. That will give you the info you seek.
I Have used Honda HP with no moly oil for a long time now and it seems jist fine. http://www.ljsoftware.com/DS/ds_02_01a.pdf
