let's see if I can try to explain this. Just above the shifter there is a small splined shaft that the pull start cover fits over, is this for a kick start? It's pretty close to the shift lever so I don't see how it could be, but if it is this would help me out a lot with my pull cord issue. Also what years is this 81 compatable with? I'd like to get new front forks and I found some off of an 82 or 83.

 

Nope, not a kickstart spline...it's your gear/neutral indicator.
As far as interchangeablity...I'm not too sure, I would check with either dennis kirk or bike bandit and cross reference the part #'s to see what years are interchangeable.
