Good topic, "What Fuel Do You Use."

I would add, "And Why?"

The reasons behind the ingredients in the cocktail poured into the fuel tank interest me; what effects do the various additives produce? How do they work?

Speaking for my own machine, I upgraded to premium pump gas when "regular" gas pinged after raising the compression ratio consequent to an overbore. So far, so good, with modest modifications (WebCam, UniFilter) to my Bayou 300; no additional additives needed.

I might add: I regularly add "gas conditioner" to the tank to neutralize any water that might enter (from rain, playing submarine, or condensation from daily temperature variation). Further, for gas stored a long time, I add "Sta-Bil" to guard against gumming and varnish/shellac formation.

Just curious to see what fuel everyone runs in their quads, pump gas, racing fuel, high octane, additives, alcohol, nitro! what is the best and what is bad.
I run 93 octane pump gas with octane boost in my 440EX, seems to work just fine, I'm just not sure how much octane boost to run in one tank. Thanks!!

What about airplane fuel? Anyone tried it? Whats the pros and cons? I know it's a higher octane than pump gas and heard it also contains lead (good ol' gas with lead). There's a small airport about two miles from my house and thought i would try it some time.

Phillip's 110 octane, mixed with Klotz Supertechniplate @ 40:1.

Why? For one it's the easiest for me to access (5 min. drive). Fairly cheap at $4.- a gallon (for this area, considering VP 108, my only alternative, runs $6.-!). It burns really clean, and I never any sediment at the bottom of my jugs.

Wish I could say the same for the oil. I have to drive 40 min. to buy it, so i buy in bulk

I occasionally use "Energy Release" conditioners (1oz. to every 5 gal.). They're not performance enhancers so I really cant say I notice any difference. Basically its a metal conditioner designed to reduce friction and wear (Slick 50 for 2-Strokes, I guess?).

Stay away from Aviation Fuel...it has anti-freeze and other additives that are not necessary for ATV's.

I also stay away from Octane Boosters as they simply do not work in 2-Stroke engines!

I have a 98 Banshee that has been bored once over, ported, polished, Wiseco Pistons, Cool Head with 18cc domes and a single Trinity Mark IV Carb, etc.

I ride my Banshee in Mexico (sea level).

I use Premium (Supreme) Pump gas or Racing gas such as VP12. Racing gas not only runs cooler in the motor, but smells super good when burned!

I also use Power Plus 2-Stroke Oil (45-1). It also burns extremely clean and smells good when burned!

As far as gas that will sit around for one week or more, I use Sta-Bil (gasoline stabilizer). This prevents the gas from turning into Varnish which occurs to gasoline that sits around in the garage or is subjected to high temperatures for more than two days. Sta-Bil is available at Wal-Mart for less than $5.00.

Hey.... does anybody have recommendations for Pre-Mix, 2-Stroke Oil? I want performance and the "Sweet" smell some 2-stroke oils put out. How about the "Klotz" oils? Any others that smell great?

Does anyone else have experience with Power Plus 2-Stroke Oil? What do you think about it? What do you run the mixture at?

Rob R.

I run Unocal, 110 octane, mixed 50/50 with 92 octane pump gas. Stay away from true aviation fuel, it not only contains antifreeze, and other additives, it's blended to run at 2200 rpm. Take it from me, if you don't jet for it, you'll lean out big time.

With a 10.25:1 compression premium gas should burn fine. I have a 11:1 compression in my ex and i run premium and octane booster. I mainly run octane booster because it just makes me feel better and I love the smell. I got it for just $5.
