Default 500 HO dying-help please

My neighbor has a 2005 500 HO ATP 4x4 with only 40 miles on it, Polaris won't warranty this machine because its out of warranty, regardless of miles. Machine starts great, but when you drive it a couple miles in high range at 3/4 throttle, it will backfire and die. Have to wait 30 seconds or so and it wil restart and do the same thing if you run it fairly fast. Is there any thing that I could look at to try to get this fixed? Thanks guys

try to take off the gas cap to see if it straightens out. if so then it has vent line issues.. check spark plug to see color if whitish its running extremly lean.

Is there a line specifically made to vent the tank, if so where is it at. Or is it vented just thru the cap. Thanks

The vent line is under the plastic right on top of the gas tank, sounds like it is lean mixture to me , take the top off of the carb and move the needle clip down one notch, see if this helps. Check the slack in the throttle cable ,there should be very little, the adjustment is 3 or 4 inches fron the thumb throttle. Oh yea, make sure the air filter is clean and un-restricted first.
