Belt squealing after change
#1
So, I was out pushing dirt with my snow plow - leveling out our back yard a bit. I overheated the belt and a few teeth came off. It was still driveable (After it cooled down) but you could tell that a few teeth were missing when it went through the clutches. So, of course - time for a belt change.
So I rip into it, while Im in there I install my new TEAM secondary roller, and my new primary spring and weights. I swung by the polaris dealer on my lunch break with my old belt in hand, and bought a new belt. Both old belt and new belt look identical in size etc, and even have the same part number on them.
Came home, installed the new belt - fired it up and the new belt is squeeling like mad when the wheels are not moving (idle - Forward gear). The belt is providing enough pull that if I let off the brake the quad will go forward on its own. If I shut it off and take it to neutral - there isnt a sound since the secondary is able to rotate freely while tranmission is out of gear. The squeeling only occurs while in gear and the wheels are unable to move (brake on).
The old belt never made a sound - it was still driveable but worn out. The new belt makes a sound. However, since I have changed the secondary roller, and the primary spring and weights - im sure something is off somewhere - I dont know where though.
As I am typing this, my thoughts focus on the secondary roller adjuster screws. If I adjust them in a bit - it should make the rear clutch a bit wider on the top end allowing the belt to fit inside a bit more, allowing the front to be a bit looser. Is this the correct assumption? Should this be my adjustment?
To be honest, I dont know what else I would use the adjustment screws for on the TEAM secondary roller other than to adjust belt tension - but I dont know =P
On top of that, the old belt on the new setup (on the secondary roller, new primary spring) does not make a peep either - however the old belt is significantly worn out - so that maybe why.
Any help is appreciated.

It's out of alignment, the service manual tells you how to align it, did the original secondary have a shim behind it? Something has changed and without measuring and looking at it it's hard to tell what. Look at your motor mounts and make sure you did'nt break one.

I had the same trouble on a snowmobile I have.......Changed the belt...Started to squeal!!!
What I did was took the new belt off and cleaned both surfaces with spray Brake cleaner...This took off the build-up of rubber and make the belt grip better when hitting the gas!!!
This might not be your trouble...But as you said you had alot of heat and wear in the old belt!!!

Well I adjusted the TEAM secondary roller, there are two screws in the center - facing outside, that allow you to adjust it, I screwed them in about 3/4 of a turn each, and the front clutch now has enough "slack" in the belt - so the squeal went away. Its perfect now. Bike pulls wheelies EASY now that I have all these parts installed - I love it =D
Cant wait to get it out to the dunes.
Anyone know if these TEAM roller adjustment screws serve any other purpose then what I just did here? (Opening up the rear clutch slightly to allow release a bit of tension on the front clutch?)
Now I just need to install my HPD air box mod. Ive never rejetted a quad before, so I think ill order another lid - so I have a factory configuration to fall back on if I cant get the jetting right.
