Spark plug question
#1
On my 730 I have a PWR radiator and I'm not sure it is the entire reason but even on 90 degree days I can't get her to run hotter than around 170. The HPR folks did install 9 heat range plugs with the build but the low running temps combined with fairly rich plugs lead me to want to try DR8EIX iridium plugs. The jetting should be right on because the 730 was dyno tuned by HPR but I was wondering if I would be safe with the iridium plugs in a one step hotter heat range. I have heard the the iridium plugs are less sensitive to heat range and was unsure if hotter plugs would bring up my temps a hair and run cleaner?

What kind of fuel are you running? Different kinds of VP fuel leave different colors on the plug. All my bikes have looked very rich on the plug especially when running some nitro's. Usually the bottom end of the lectron makes the most power when needing alot of fuel. At idle will give you a rich looking condition. If you open up your bike in 4rd gear and cut her off around 8k then check you plug you should look cleaner. You might also get that little puff of smoke when you crack the throttle off idle. I have seen that dissapear just from changeing fuels. Maybe you might check into a fuel that burns cleaner. I know a hotter plug will burn a bit faster and probly cleaner as well. The cleanest buring fuel ive ran is c-14. I think 170 degrees is perfect, Again jmo but thats right where mine always been. I think the motors last longer at that temp.
Ive also been wanting to run those irridiums, I hear they are more consistan. I just want to run them on the dyno. Ive been running the 10's with a rich look on them. Just a TINY bit of tan on the porcelin. Sure looks great to me. Also, VP 110 seems to be a cheaper fuel and loads up on bottom end and doesnt run as clean as c-14. Might be because c-14 is designed for 4 strokes.

I've been running Sunoco 112 blue and yes I get a big 'ol puff when I crack her open. I'll definitely have to do a wide open plug chop to see what's going on there, thanks!
