Default Rancher 'thinks' it's in Reverse!! Killing me!

Ok guys...

I've had my 2001 Rancher 350 4x4 for over 5 years. It's never done anything wrong, and I mean NOTHING wrong. Not a cough, flinch, hiccup, absolutely nothing.

I was pulling trees out of my backyard with it the other day and I noticed the reverse light stayed on even after shifting out of Reverse. Stupid me... What do I do? I turn it off, thinking OH.. Just shut it down and start it back up and I'll be good to go. I am sure you know the rest of the story! D-E-A-D.

The started won't engage because the machine "thinks" it is in Reverse. It's not in reverse I rode the thing around a bit more after the light stayed on. It shifts just fine.

I'm thinking sensor... The only question is..... Where the *ell is the thing????

Can anybody help me..... I need my little utlity tractor... It's spring time and I have a bunch of yard work to do!!!!

Sincerely,

Bnash88

Foot shift model????

Get a service manual and find where the sensor is. It may need replacing or maybe just adjustment. I think maybe you can cut a wire so it will start in reverse. I'll go out and take a look at mine.

Are you able to trace the wires from the reverse light back to a switch??? Probably the switch is inside the transmission case though (???).

The cut the wire thing has been posted in here before, but don't remember seeing it recently...

GREAT......... How do you fix it?
Is there a way to bypass the switch?
I know there is nothing wrong with my machine mechanically.

Thanks a bunch for the info. I really do appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Bud

My Rancher 350 is an 01 too. Forgot that I had mine replaced in a recall, shortly after I bought it.....
