? about 70cc or less kids quads
#1
Anyone that has a 70cc or less kids quad, please jump in here! I just bought a Lifan 70cc quad for my son. The thing has absolutely no take-off power. Do all of the small cc machines suffer from this issue? The quad reminds me of an old mini bike that I had when I was a kid where you almost had to peddle with your feet to get it moving.

Thanks for the reply, BigRic.
I took the Lifan out in the cul-de-sac near my house and did a few tests with my son at the wheel. I tied a rope to the rear grab-bar and had him go wide open throttle while I pulled back as hard as I could. I could stall the machine and prevent it from moving. I then had him place one front tire against the curb and had him go full throttle. The thing couldn't get the front tire over the curb!
I've got an appointment with the dealer this AM. The thing moved out pretty good once underway. I called them yesterday at around 6:25 and they didn't call me back until 7:45 (started to get nervous). But, they understood my concern and told me to bring it back and that they would look it over. They told me that it was no problem and that they would give me my money back if I'm not happy with it. They have another ATV that is a 110cc, made by Eagle that we looked at when we purchased the Lifan. It looks identical to the Raceway Renegade (not in pink though) on the Racewayatv.com site. I'm seriously thinking about getting this one to replace the Lifan. It's got bigger tires and more juice. But it's alot stiffer suspension (if you can call it a suspension).
By the way, did you go by that HS Motos in Carrollton?

Most of these smaller quads are way undergeared. The only fix is to regear it. Do you have the throttle screw all teh way out? The 110 will have alot more snot. They actually move really well but you cant turn the throttle screw in too much or you will be right where you started. How old is your son?

i have a really hard time with this issue of kids on bikes. what i mean is a 50 or 70 or even a 110. the kids are going to out grow them in 6 months at most. my daughter started riding a yamaha 350 at 6 she's now 9 and on my 500xt.(click to see the pics) teach them to ride and let them grow into the bike. my daughter rode a 500 rubicon last weekend and said (daddy it doesn't have enough power) as long as she does'nt try to climb trees like her old man she'll be fine.

2manytoys, he will be 5 in June. Does anyone make a kids quad with a 3 or 4 speed tranny? I would rather be able to put it in a gear to match the terrain and then adjust the throttle. A friend of mine has a 4-stroke Honda 50cc dirt bike with the training wheels. My son rode it this weekend and did great. It has the 3-speed auto clutch setup.

as far as 50s go I have seen a chinese or tiawanese with gears (don't remember the brand), but as for the big names, Yamaha Raptor 80 3 speed auto-clutch. Honda TRX90 4 speed auto-clutch. all I know of.
