Polaris 425 wont run unless intake is obstructed
#1
Hey guys cool forum. I got a 1995 Polaris Magnum with a newer (one season) CV Mikuni carb, stock equip . Anyway the only way I can start it and keep it running somewhat (no idle at all) is to just about cover the entire intake of the carb. Leaving about 1/4 inch gap betw my fingers. The slide does move up and down. Once it is running I pull hand away for a quick check and see that it is moving ok, it will then quit 2 seconds later. It is just not getting enough fuel. Anyone know the float setting? (How many MM?) Or what else it could be? It had bad gas in it when we got it and the float WAS stuck. I cleaned it checked the diaphram which is in great shape. Cylinder Intake rubber solid, no leaks. Compression is good. Will it run on gravity feed? Or do I have to go thru the fuel "pump"? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, why is that? Polaris has pumps and Japs don't. Are Americans too smart to use a free pump? (gravity feed) I have always wanted to look to see if the carb hook up was above the fuel outlet, but never did. Them Japs are keeping it simple!

Take the pilot jet out and clean it real good along with the main jet.
you need to run the fuel pump too.
Sounds like a gummed up carb.

I had the same problem with Magnum.
You must make sure that the air filter intake is covered by the socks sponge.
Clean the sponge and wet it with engine oil.
Make sure you have removed all excessive oil from the sponge. It has to be wet but not drooling.
I know it sounds very simple , but it worked for me immediately.
